“I Call That Feeling Marble”
Fridays at 11:00 am EST on Crunchyroll
The truth is out and it’s so shocking neither Moriko or Sakurai know what to do next. After a few days of nursing their self doubts (and Sakurai getting super drunk), Koiwai steps in.
I have never wanted to give anime characters hugs more than watching these two nerds this week. It’s pretty common to see characters with low self esteem doubting themselves but I’m hard pressed to think of more examples where there are two trying to date each other. This ties back in to the point I mentioned a few episodes ago about good couples: we are not watching an “opposites attract” scenario. Moriko and Sakurai are in a similar place in life with similar feelings and issues they need to deal with. They’ve even chosen the same way to cope. I think that has never been more clear this week, and I appreciate how well they depicted some of the crazy things that go through your head when you think someone might like you.
So it while it might be frustrating to watch each of them misinterpret the other’s feelings, you can definitely see how our patience will be rewarded. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but thankfully Koiwai stepped in this episode so that we didn’t have wait too long to get Moriko and Sakurai talking again. I don’t know if my heart could have survived ending the episode without them together. Now that they ARE together, they just need to keep talking and getting more comfortable with sharing what they’re really thinking, then we should be good from there.
On a sad note, I’ve seen many sources say next week is actually the last episode. Assuming that’s true, that’s kind of a double edged sword. On the one hand, it seems we are very close to a satisfying stopping point with the truth out in the open. On the other, I really like this show and I don’t want it to end. This is a rare example of a romantic comedy where I don’t think the two of then getting together needs to be the end game. I’d love to see them awkwardly dating for at least a few episodes. I suppose I could check out the manga, but I’ll wait to see what happens next week.
