  1. During the prison incident what happened was that the individual imperial units got spooked they will be labelled to have democratic principles doubled down on being tough on the prisoners. I think if there is one definite big down side of Oberstein brand ruling its that people assume the worse and get paranoid like in this case or even last episode when the chief argument that black lancer guy said was that we are going to revolt if Bittenfield gets purged. This way of ruling does not create a conducive atmosphere for a long lasting state because all your actual officials are too paranoid and just engage in office politics because they are too scared they might get purged.

There are lots of things to like with this latest on going battle. We got Reinhard doing the wine smashing again for old times sake and he even gets on the mike to get people pumped up for a fleet wide sieg kaiser chant.

I think the requirement to lead a military campaign isn’t that big of a hurdle. If the emperor is good at it we don’t have a problem. If he isn’t then we need to check if he’s smart enough to just delegate while looking pretty for the fleets at the front. Maybe we might even get an emperor that wants to fight but isn’t politically savy enough to skirt the rule so it we get a more peaceful empire. Either way the rule isn’t that big of a restriction. To be frank if we can’t have leaders that aren’t warlike then we might as well get ones that are willing to put their life on the line in. Better a Reinhard than a Job is the sentiment.

Side note I think the Reinhard being scared of another Ruenthal didn’t pan out for the earth cult much because they didn’t do the Julian thing of trying to understand who Reinhard was because Reinhard as we can see even this late into the series is still overall head of the military so the question of trusting someone enough to delegate military power never comes up. Really considering Reinhard gained power by being given military power by the previous emperor it might not be such a bad plan to refuse to delegate.

It took me this long to realize the full ramifications of the Yang fleet becoming the core of democracy for this era. Yang managed to infect his fleet to the point we can see the understaffed ship crew just joking around a battle they can’t win. Forget an empire of Obersteins think about a body republic filled with Yang Wenlis.

The weaknesses of a hierarchy have been put on display time and again but they really hammered it home this time. Yang is dead and gone for a season and the republicans are still fighting while every time Reinhard gets sick everything in the empire stops.

Lastly I think the republican fleet is seriously weakened to the point it can’t actually fight a conventional war with one of the major empire admirals anymore. It has less than ten thousand ships filled with skeleton crews and they don’t even have the numbers to fill some of the ships anymore and had to put them into decoys.

Speaking of numbers though the empire took some hits from Operation Ragnarok one numbers they now barely have the size of Ruenthal’s old fleet when he was governor.

Also when Reinhard was thinking of a name he decided on Alexander which was Bewcock’s name so I’ve always thought that he named his kid partly after that old man that shook him so much after one talk.

Now I can finally write down the BITTENFIELD ROLL of HONOUR.
    0. Has a fleet of ships painted black filled with the biggest ships the empire could manage for a fleet.
    1. 2 Admiral and fleet kills at Amlitzer.
    2. Dealt the decisive blow that defeated the alliance at Rantemario.
    3. Came up with the idea to just attack the capital which was closest to Hilda’s game winning plan.
    4. Got the honour of being the vanguard of Operation Ragnarok 2.
    5. Got there in time to seal the empire victory at Marr Adetta Starzone. Killed Admiral Ralph and then got to shoot Bewcock.
    6. Dealt the most damage to the El Facil Fleet and killed Admiral Fischer.
    7. Played a leading role in putting down the Ruenthal Rebellion. Totally true he was with Mittermeyer and Wahlen so he’s at least the third most important admiral there.
    8. Physically attacked Oberstein as well as almost a series long verbal attacks.

His only failures to date are two defeats at the hands of Yang Wenli but I waited for these episodes to get to Reinhard saying that doesn’t count because nobody could beat Yang so in effect Bittenfield has done nothing wrong!
