Premise

Second-year high school student Ito Narita moves home after her mother gets remarried. What she didn’t tell her daughter is that her new husband has four sons, all of whom are younger than Ito. Now living with Gen, Raku, Shu, and Rui, Ito is determined to be a model big sister, although the coolly distant Gen – a single day younger than her – may prove a bigger challenge to get along with than Ito anticipated.

In a pinch, this might have been a series that my 15-year-old self might have appreciated. My current self started skipping through the second half of the episode to see if there might be anything a bit less banal than a rom-com about a high school girl who suddenly finds herself saddled with not one, not two, but four younger stepbrothers, at least one of whom is portrayed as ridiculously hot.

Spoiler alert: there was not.

Those concerned about this being a particularly fanservicey show need not worry – Please Excuse My Younger Brothers is tame in every sense of the word, which may make it an easy watch, but also not a very interesting one. The story beats are rote, from the OG mom dying of anime disease to the love interest putting up a gruff front to hide a heart of gold.

Watch this if you’re after a solid 5/10 lighthearted shoujo romance. Otherwise, give it a miss.
