Hello, and welcome to All Your Monies, where The Glorio Blog’s resident toy and figure collecting crew (and Aquagaze) will run down the last week’s new preorders, turning a loving or scathing eye over what’s been put out for you to spend your hard earned cash on. This week an old friend returns.
Nendoroid Mikoto Misaka (A Certain Scientfic Railgun)
Good Smile Company, October, 2790JPY
Zigg: It’s been a while since there’s been a Nendoroid worthy of leading this feature but if anyone can it’s Mikoto. This is super-duper adorable, which is always the number one priority when it comes to Nendos, and those alternate faces are genius, especially the shouty one. It’s very light on accessories and as ever Mikoto’s uniform is not the most inspired design, but this is still too cute to resist.
Lifesong: Where is the sister headpiece? Surely GSC must realize there are people out there who would buy a dozen of these if they had the sister headpiece. Oh well… maybe that is another nendroid entirely?
Timmy: Very cute. I am with Life though, this really could use some Imouto accessories, although that would probably bump up the price. Not a deal breaker by any means though and I find myself awfully tempted to get this Mikoto.
Asuna ALO ver. (Sword Art Online)
Alphamax, December, 8540JPY
Zigg: This is a really lovely looking figure of Asuna, and I especially like the detailing and effort that’s been put into the dress, making it look billowy and effervescent like it should do. My major concern is the face. That sad, almost scared expression doesn’t do anything for me and it’d be a major reason I’d be hesitant to put this on my shelf. It’s expensive too but still, a blessed relief from Griffon’s work.
Lifesong: An ALO Asuna seems to be something hard to make without offending some people. Personally I think this is the best one yet. This Asuna is full of emotion. She kind of looks like she came right out of a sad girls in snow story, but that works well with the whole fairy look.
Timmy: I like everything about this Asuna save for the face. That concerned, or otherwise sad expression just isn’t doing it for me and it makes her look like she is fearfully running away from a tentacle monster or something, which I know is something that would not happen in such an outstanding show like SAO but still. She is also a tad pricey but throw in an alternate happy expression and you could potentially have my money Alphamax.
figma Rintarou Okabe (Steins;Gate)
Max Factory, December, 3190JPY
Zigg: I don’t know too much about Rintarou’s character but I do know this is a very sharp looking figma. There’s some delightful little details here, like the very neat way his slippers and feet fit together, or the hanging belt strap. Little stuff like this just helps enhance whats quite a basic design and gives it a bit more life. Also, I’m a strong believer we generally need more male figmas.
Lifesong: If I ever posed my figmas more than once this would be an instant buy. So many awesome ways you can pose this guy.
S.H. Figuarts Kamen Ride Blade King Form (Kamen Rider Blade)
Bandai, December, 5700JPY (Exclusive)
Zigg: Considering how ridiculously blinged-out this form is I’m sort of impressed Bandai managed to translate it into figure form at all, let alone make it look as good as it does. The individual carvings and decorations on the suit are reproducedi n painstaking detail and, dare I say, the chunky action figure aesthetic makes this actually look better than a real dude wearing a suit. It’s a bit accessory light but at least you get what counts, which are those two huge, nicely detailed swords. It’s a great figure then but that price hurts a lot, as does web exclusive status.
Lifesong: Who thought it was a good idea to mix gold, silver, red, blue and black on the same set of armor? This guy looks like a dynasty warrior wannabe robot or something. His head looks like a starfish with bug eyes? I am just entirely confused by this design. It is ugly and I do not like it.
Timmy: Is this like the Gilgamesh of Kamen Rider guys or what? Bandai did a great job getting all those colors and details right but at that price they seem quite aware of it.
Revoltech Woody (YOUR WORST NIGHTMARES)
Kaiyodo, November, 2180JPY
Zigg: OK he’s not an anime character but let’s face it, this guy is probably responsible for more memorable figure photographs than any other toy in history.
Lifesong: Now you too can take creepy photos with woody and your anime babes!
Timmy: Ohh Woody. I will never see Toy Story the same way again thanks to this figure.
