Willem reveals the true power of the Dug Weapons and presents the possibility of Ctholly avoiding death in the upcoming battle. With this new information, Ctholly tries to decide her best course of action.

Jel’s thoughts

With all the knowledge of the past that this army seems to have, are we supposed to believe that NO ONE understood the most basic principle of how the Dug Weapons work? I mean, if they are indeed more powerful as a countermeasure, you’d think that even if they didn’t know they would have figured it out pretty quickly. The whole thing seemed like a lazy way to make Willem much more important and stir up a bit of drama… or at least you would think so. I’d assume more people would be upset at this knowledge but only Ctholly seems to realize that it implies everyone before her died in vain.

Despite my logic quibbles, there were a couple good things going on this week. I just assumed the army was evil and that they didn’t care about sending these girls to their death, but at least at the moment that doesn’t seem to be the case. It’s a necessary evil and they genuinely treat the girls like heroes. Ctholly even seems to be able to confide in her commanding officer, who was perfectly fine letting her decide how she wants to go about her mission. Of course that doesn’t mean the higher ups aren’t corrupt or whatever, so we’ll see how things pan out on that front.

I also appreciated there was no creepiness on par with last week’s “massage” scene, and Ctholly had a surprisingly appropriate reaction to that the next morning. Still, you can’t deny the way the girls all adore Willem is feeding that “last man on Earth” fantasy, even it was more subtle this week. There’s no reason that can’t flare up again at any time. So overall I’d say I was middle of the road on this episode. The plot wasn’t as interesting or well told as episode 1 but they did manage to avoid the pitfalls we saw in episode 2. That’s good enough to keep me on board for now, and I must admit I want to know what happens in the upcoming battle. I’m assuming Ctholly will pull through somehow, but we shall see.

  1. It would be really odd for them to kill her after that, though I guess they could go that way. As for the weapons, I just assumed given all the humans were wiped out that there was no one left who had the full knowledge of how it was supposed to work. Clearly they can’t make weapns like that and most of the people can’t use them, so other than knowing they were powerful they don’t seem to have much knowledge about them at all but are desperate enough to use them anyway. At least that’s how I took it.

    • With the weapons it might have just been how they presented it. It seemed like such a simple thing when they were fighting, you’d think someone would have figured out during training or something. Not really a super important detail I guess, just seemed odd to me.

    • There are some parts I like and some parts I don’t, but there are enough unique things going on that I’m finding it interesting to write about. I think it’s worth anyone checking out and deciding for themselves.
