I’m with Jel, Asuka fans are more understandable for me. I imagine you’ll also find em more common among people who watched this show as teens like I did.
Personally, I hated Asuka when I first watched the show in my teens, and was far more sympathetic towards Rei. (That said, I wasn’t approaching either character from a ‘chicks I’d like to bang’ perspective, which I hear is/was pretty common with these two.)
I forget if I mentioned it in the podcast but I did hate Asuka for like 95% of the series and changed my mind by the end. I’m sure we’ll get around to that in later episodes.
I’ll completely acknowledge that teenage boys do not have a great track record of good opinions.
I think Rei’s coldness was what was most unappealing, whereas Asuka reminded me of real teenage girls I knew.
