Nine and Twelve plant a bomb on the subway, but soon come to realize that the police won’t be able to find it in time to evacuate. Unwilling to become mass murderers, they rush to take down the bomb themselves, but someone is getting in their way.
The police keep grasping at straws while Shibazaki heads to Aomori to gather more clues. Nine prepares another riddle, but starts to clash with Twelve over whether they should take in the runaway Lisa.
Shibazaki is put in charge of the investigation as Nine and Twelve reveal a new riddle to the world. Meanwhile, Lisa tries to run away from home.
Naru Sekiya’s life consists mostly of reading and taking severe blows to her self-esteem. This all changes, however, when she meets Hannah S. Fountainstand, a transfer student for New Jersey who introduces Naru to yosakoi dancing.
After both a literal and an in-universe winter break, Haruka, Makoto, Rei, Nagisa and that girl reunite for another summer of swimming shenanigans, yet there’s a lot of work to be done before they can start training again. Meanwhile, Mikoshiba’s graduation leads to Rin becoming Samezakura’s new swimming team captain, with all due awkwardness.

It’s the end of yet another anime season, so amidst all the final impressions, we also try to choose our favourite anime theme songs of the season. This proved rather exceptionally hard this season, as not one, but two songs were picked by two different people. I had no idea we had such unanimous taste over here. Then again, maybe we just didn’t watch enough anime this season, and that should probably tell you something.

The kanmusu, or “ship daughters”, twee teenage girls dressed like fashionable sailors and armed to the teeth with equally cutesy heavy weaponry, are the heroines and mascots of Kantai Collection, the new cult phenomenon taking the Internet by storm. Yet the context on which Kantai Collection exists, is a rather problematic one.
