It’s time for our Anime Shorts Roundup featuring episode 5 of Aiura, Sparrow’s Hotel and Muromi-san. This week we have random nods to Street Fighter, two-day-late Golden Week references, and immortal mermaids on skateboards.
Kirino asks Kyousuke to pose as her boyfriend to help her avoid a persistent modeling agency scout. Things get awkward until Kuroneko asks them to participate in her book for Comiket.
With her mind now at ease about the clone project, Mikoto looks forward to enjoying her summer vacation. After spending a lazy day off however, her peace is interrupted.

The Pixiv illustration that launched an otaku empire has been all of those things, including a PSP game that has surprisingly been localized for North American and European fans. Has NISA done us a favor and rescued an obscure gem, or is this simply a cash-in on the franchise’s niche popularity?
This week in Shorts we get a healthy dose of lab coat moe from Aiura, service industry espionage in Sparrow’s Hotel, and Muromi-san confirms that birds, no matter how legendary, are brainless and annoying.
Kirino’s roommate and friendly rival from America arrives in Japan for a visit. The Kousakas show her around Akihabara before she proposes a race.
Yet another Monogatari song featured on OP/EDs. I apologize for nothing!

Yup, this is happening: The Glorio Blog’s anime shorts coverage is going weekly as we share some thoughts on Aiura, Sparrow’s Hotel, and Muromi-san. This week’s episodes feature alliterated nicknames, big boobs that bounce but not in the way you’d think, and pop idol mermaids saving Japan from Mongol invasion. How could we NOT write about that?
Ayase is so concerned about Kirino’s latest gaming obsession that she seeks Kyousuke’s advice. He tries to confront Kirino, but ends up hooked on the game himself. This doesn’t go over well with Manami, who teams up with Ayase to set things straight.
Picking up immediately after the first series, Mikoto, Kuroko, Saten, and Uiharu return for more cute girl slice of life antics and hard hitting, super powered action.
The Hero Emilia (now going as Emi) has found Maou but for now lacks the power to kill him. After following him for a few days and seeing the kind of life he leads, she proposes a deal.
In addition to all our first impressions of the full length shows, a new anime season means more ANIME SHORTS. For this season I set aside the combined 19 minutes necessary to watch Aiura, Sparrow’s Hotel and Muromi-san and I’m not sure my opinion of the format has changed… OR HAS IT???
