A Very GLORIO 2017: Gee’s Arbitrary Hot Takes

2017, despite being something of a garbage fire of a year, ended up being pretty good for anime. Between some original standouts, old franchises returning to form, and some excellent adaptations, anime is as fresh as it’s ever been, even in the face of some truly offensive offerings. As my life gets busier, I find I end up watching less than I’d like, but nonetheless, here’s my arbitrary list of awards that give me an excuse to talk about some of that anime.

A Very GLORIO 2017: Marlin Presents “Nerds in Love”

Despite the dearth in truly outstanding shows, there have been a lot of good romances and feel good moments for me to love this past year. A big focus has been awkward spazzes and the nerds who love them, so here’s a toast! Whether it’s playing shogi and make sure a bullied girl knows she’s not alone, taking a silent grouch on random photo shoots, or coming out of your shell to find out your best online friend makes a better boyfriend, we’ve had a lot of dorks out to steal our heart.

The Roundup: Fall 2017 Volume 10

I, your brave Marlin am here to give Jel a break(mostly) as he prepares for our year’s end festivities. Meanwhile, we give a “Ganbare, Pine Jam!” as Just Because! gets into production issues again, Hina continues to shine in March Comes In Like a Lion, and Anime-Gataris goes full Samurai Flamenco.

The Roundup: Fall 2017 Volume 6

If you live in the US, chances are at some point today you’ll be super tired after stuffing your face with food and looking for a way to get out of talking to your family. We’re already halfway through the season and on top of that, we’re dangerously close to the end of the year. That means Best of 2017 talk is coming soon! I don’t know if any of our Roundup shows will take Best Show of the year, but I know the conspicuously absent Classicaloid will definitely not. Anyone want to offer their preliminary picks?

It’s one of longest Roundups yet as Gee catches up with two weeks worth of Kino’s Journey and Marlin makes a surprise appearance. Most notably though, March Comes In Like a Lion delivers one of its best episodes and reminds us why I had it as an anime of the year contender. More of that please.

The Roundup: Fall 2017 Volume 3

I feel like this ship is slowly sinking as many of our Roundup shows continue to be slightly disappointing. Not bad mind you, but flawed enough to dampen our fun. I mean, how else do you explain Classicaloid employing talking dogs and me not really enjoying it? At least Blood Blockade Battlefront is in top form and I think Anime-gataris has finally won me over, and it seems Just Because is doing well enough to join us this week. What’s everyone else think of the season so far?

Some of our returning shows are starting to lose their luster, but don’t worry, there’s still a lot of good anime going on. Old reliable favorites like Mr. Osomatsu and Blood Blockade Battlefront are holding it down, but I’m not entirely sure why Aqua is still making himself watch Love Live! Sunshine!!.

The GLORIO Fall 2017 Anime Guide – Part 3
