It’s the last Roundup of the winter season and we say good bye to Seiren and Interviews with Monster Girls while Classicaloid and Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid stubbornly hold on for another episode.
In our second to last Roundup for Winter, we say goodbye to March Comes In Like a Lion with an extremely disappointing final episode, but at least we know it will return later this year. Fortunately the rest of the shows land pretty solid setups for their final episodes of the season, so it looks like we’ll be ending on a high note.
I marathoned the amazing Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu this week (more on that another time) and I have to admit, watching that masterpiece has made it a little tough to get excited about this week’s batch of average episodes. There is still some good content though, most notably former best show of the season March Comes In Like a Lion returning to it’s heartwarming, adorable self. Now please excuse me as I impatiently wait for the next episode of Rakugo to emotionally destroy me.
f you ever want to sell someone on watching Classicaloid just tell them at some point Franz Schubert destroys half a dozen other classical composers in a dis track so hot they all turn into Parappa the Rapper characters. Nothing else matters this week… well except shout out to Marlin for giving me a breather on some shows this week and don’t worry, Artemis will be back soon.
It’s been a long week and most of the Roundup shows did not bring their A game, so apologies in advance if I sound more like a cranky old man than usual. Fortunately Little Witch Academia stands out as a bright spot with its best episode yet. Nothing like some ol’ timey cartoons to improve your mood.
Classicaloid wins this week with an appropriately bizarre take on “Swan Lake” and I hate the self-proclaimed fan service episode of Dragon Maid, but not for the reasons you may think. Otherwise it’s business as usual for the Winter Roundup. See you next week.
We are moving the Roundup to Fridays which means a double dose of Dragon Maid this week, for better or worse. While that show continues to frustrate me, it’s a solid week for the rest of the lineup with March Comes In Like a Lion delivering its best episode of the second half. With all these shows still being pretty good nearly halfway through, maybe this season isn’t as bad as we thought it would be?
That dumb Dragon Maid show turns into Non Non Biyori, Seiren hits the reset button, the writers of Classicaloid are on a lot of drugs, and Interviews With Monster Girls gives me yet another excuse to mention bettermyths.
More debate this week as Gee and I disagree on this season’s premier weird and awkward teenage romance anime – no, not that one, I mean the ending of Seiren’s first story arc. Also, has Interviews with Monster Girls finally hit the wall and become the dumb harem show we originally thought it would be? Join us and discuss.
Week 2 of the Winter Roundup fills in a bit as we welcome (sort of) Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid and Seiren, plus a shout out to Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu’s second sesaon. Also, Artemis and I actually disagree on something!
Miss Kobayashi is living her boring life, working all day and drinking all night, until a powerful dragon shows up at her door. This dragon turns into a cute girl and offers to be her maid based on an incident the night before.
Part 1 of our winter preview guide was pretty bleak and part 2 is not much better. Fortunately there are some glimmers of hope. The most notable is the return Little Witch Academia, Trigger’s magical OVA series now formatted for TV. Aqua tells me Scum’s Wish is also good if you like horrible people doing horrible things, but if that turns out feel free to place 100% of the blame on him. Let us know if anything else looks interesting to you, brave readers, and we’ll see you soon with our first looks in the next few days.
