A Very GLORIO 2017: Marlin Presents “Nerds in Love”
Despite the dearth in truly outstanding shows, there have been a lot of good romances and feel good moments for me to love this past year. A big focus has been awkward spazzes and the nerds who love them, so here’s a toast! Whether it’s playing shogi and make sure a bullied girl knows she’s not alone, taking a silent grouch on random photo shoots, or coming out of your shell to find out your best online friend makes a better boyfriend, we’ve had a lot of dorks out to steal our heart.

As is our custom, the GLORIO crew will be posting a variety of retrospectives on anime, music, drama, and whatever else we want to talk about that happened in 2017. As is also our custom, I’ll be kicking things off with my favorite anime moments of the year.

After running for shelter during a rain storm, Moriko hangs out at Sakurai’s apartment for the day. The episode is so adorable that my heart stopped and I had to be resuscitated to write this.

The truth is out and it’s so shocking neither Moriko or Sakurai know what to do next. After a few days of nursing their self doubts (and Sakurai getting super drunk), Koiwai steps in.

Both Sakurai and Moriko remember their time playing NanterSG and how important their friendship was. Sakurai creates a new character and decides to model him after the one in the previous game, hoping that Moriko will recognize him.

While Sakurai continues to sort out his feelings, Koiwai signs up for the game and asks Moriko to teach him how to play. Moriko creates an alternate starter character to help him out, but things get complicated when they run into Kanbe.

Moriko learns she showed up on the wrong day for her date with Koiwai so she has dinner with Sakurai instead. Misreading the situation, Sakurai backs off and Moriko still goes on her date with Koiwai the next day. Also, Marlin joins us this week and I try to subliminally sabotage his argument with my choice of screencaps.

As Moriko prepares for her date with Koiwai, she decides to meet up in-game with Kazuomi, the boy at the convenience store. Yuta is still not convinced that Hayashi is Moriko, but he can’t ignore his curiosity.

A new in-game event sparks a conversation between Moriko and the boy at the convenience store, and Lilac finds herself looking at her guild members a little differently. With Yuta unable to sort out his feelings for Moriko, Koiwai leaps into action.

Yuta digs around and learns about Moriko’s previous job. In-game, Lily gives Hayashi an expensive gift, making him question if she has ulterior motives.

One of Moriko’s guild members asks about her personal life and unsure how to respond, she lies about her age. This comes as a shock to Lily, who is apparently older in real life. Later, Moriko literally runs into the mysterious hot blonde dude she saw at the convenience store and the two make a connection.

Moriko quits her exhausting office job so she can stay home and play MMOs all day. After finding a new game to play, she befriends a character named Lily and a group of other nice people who play to blow off steam.
The GLORIO Fall 2017 Anime Guide – Part 3
Unfortunately the third part of our preview guide features all three of my nominees for the potential worst shows of the season. On the bright side, we have the TV series debut of the popular Ancient Magus Bride, as well as two good returning shows in Blood Blockade Battlefront and March Come In Like a Lion.
