We made it.
With Mama Minato now back with us, everyone quickly tries to think of ways to deal with Leugocyte without firing a laser at it. It doesn’t work out so well, so R/B will probably have to fire a laser at it.
The Minato family, upon being visited by the person threatening to end the world, perform a dance about manju. Unsure of how to proceed the plot, we revisit the case of the missing mother. She’s been in Aizen’s basement all along, trapped inside a space vase.
We sleep through episode 18, then watch as D.R.L.N. sends the bad robot to go fight the Ultramen.
Whether you want Sherlock adaptations, mothers becoming politicians or comically-sized handguns, J-drama has it all. Here’s a look at what I watched this year.
PIGMON THE BEST.
You know what’s cooler than new weapons and new forms? Fusion, baby! Along with the introduction of Ultraman Ruebe, we get some pretty stellar parenting from Papa Minato.
The mysterious goth gives Aizen, Rosso and Blu power-ups, then makes them fight. Asahi realises she’s weird. I want a pet space narwhal.
A powered-up Horoboros proves too strong for the Ultramen, leaving all three of them hospitalised. After three very obvious hints, Asahi finally figures out the human identities of Rosso and Blu. Also, she might be an alien now?
The conflict between Aizen and the Minato brothers reaches boiling point, as they duke it out in public view. A mysterious woman who is definitely not the missing mother shows up and summons an even more powerful Horoboros, to the surprise of all three Ultramen.
Not content with having his pizza cutter stolen, Aizen targets Rosso and Blu while they’re having a family picnic. He challenges them to a final exam to prove who is the better Ultraman, before summoning a furry for them to fight.
After a bad training montage and the discovery of a new power-up, Rosso and Blu ask Ultraman Black Black Black Black for a rematch.
Blu, emotionally wounded after almost killing a friend as Ultraman, cannot transform. He later overcomes the problem because he’s the hero Japan needs. Aizen, sick of the duo’s poor showing as Ultramen, transforms into an Ultraman himself and beats the stuffing out of them.
An ex-police officer and friend shows up at the Minato household for their once-every-four-years rock paper scissors tournament. Due to Aizen’s meddling, she later becomes a monster and almost dies.
Blu helps a fellow scientist to perfect a flying suit. While out testing the device, the two brothers sense that a great power is hidden nearby. Also we got excited about this being a good episode so we might have overdone it on the GIFs.
Rosso discovers he has an important baseball match coming up when the manager announces his resignation. Aizen attends, steals the show and summons Red King, because he can.
The Minato kids head off to meet Makoto Aizen, who is definitely not just a Japanese Tony Stark. Then a monster shows up and OH MY GOD GET THOSE TEETH AWAY FROM THAT EYEBALL.
The Ultra-brothers save the city from an accordion dinosaur, and might have accidentally killed a guy?
Two brothers, who really enjoy this sweet secret handshake they’ve come up with, become Ultramen and beat the stuffing out of a big dinosaur.
