As the resident hot blooded contributor to the blog, it would be unacceptable for me to not feature one of finest OPs in super robot history. Getter Robo Armageddon is often considered one of the first anime adaptations of Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa’s super robot classic, Getter Robo, to accurately portray the manliness and hot blooded characters of the manga. And fittingly, it has a gloriously bombastic OP to match.

Seriously, just give it a listen. From the rousing military style march to the bold horns, it’s a hot blooded song from beginning til end. All accompanied by the rousing voice of Ichiro Mizuki, a man whom’s voice has become a defining feature of classic super robot themes. Before there was JAM project and the hot blooded songs of Masaaki Endoh, it was Mizuki’s voice who defined a generation of super robots. (Iro’s Note: Don’t forget Isao Sasaki)

Just look at those lyrics. Barely a song and more like a speech, they’re about the importance of holding onto your beliefs and fighting for the passions that burn in your heart! That you must take a stand against those who would steal those dreams from others! And that most importantly, if you have something burning in your heart, if you have something you must defend, now is the time! It was a song specifically written for Getter Robo. It’s hot blooded, it’s over the top, and most importantly, it’s inspiring.
