My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Episode 10

Recap: The school festival is getting started, and in contrast to most every other episode, almost none of the actual prep is shown. Instead, committee politics is the name of the game this week.

Not giving us much of a break here, are they. Going straight out of the awkward summer, we get catapulted straight into a culture fest. Of course, Hachiman gets cornered into being on committee, and gets paired up with that new bitch we only just met last episode. I suppose I say paired up in only the strictest of terms, this is clearly about how Hachiman is going to reconnect with Yukino by supporting her through the festival.

I would say having someone try to steal the spotlight just because they wanna feel important only to do no work seems a little farfetched, but honestly, who am I kidding. I’ve seen this shit in college RSO’s, I imagine the same shit goes on in high schools too. It’s kinda scary how true this is to life. You have the people who do 50% of the work with no recognition, and as long as the lazy people have enough charisma they get off scot-free.

I’m glad we still had the scenes inside of Hachiman’s class, because everything else was deadly serious. A bit of levity from Captain Fujoshi is always good for a chuckle or two. They really know which of his more slapstick jokes are funny, and they run with it. I’ll admit I’ve never read The Little Prince, but the idea of turning classic French literature into fujoshi bait isn’t unique to this story, so I guess there must be a market for it.

Once again, Hachiman’s strategy seems to be making an ass of himself in order to shift blame. It is a pretty effective strategy of his, but I can only help feel that it can’t last forever. There’s only so much he can do trying to deflect negative sentiments, and I feel he’s at his limit. I also think this is a problem Yukino has to solve on her own. With her sister in the mix, this has become incredibly personal, and if she wants to finally earn some respect she’s gotta handle this situation.

I am disappointed at how little Yui has been involved. It’s understandable in the committee scenes since she isn’t in it, but she seems to be completely ineffective even getting the two to talk to each other. I know this is basically a Yukino arc, but she’s still a main character damn it, I want to see her help Yukino as much as Hachiman is.
