Let’s return to an old favourite shall we? While the most famous piece of music from Railgun remains its bombastic techno-pop opening, there’s something to be said for the quieter approach too.
‘Dear My Friend’ is almost the perfect contrast to ‘Only My Railgun’ – whereas that song was a pounding, synth heavy pop/rock number to get you pumped for the action, this is a delightfully slight little ballad to end on. The gentle drum and bassline complement the sung-spoken lyrics until we get a lovely launch into the upbeat ending segment. Cheerful yet with a slightly wistful edge as well, it’s relative simplicity belies the wonderfully warm, moving performance, well matched to the primary-colour drenched visuals. Beautiful lyrics too. It’s a trifle, but a very pretty and apt one.
