Game Adaptation by J.C. Staff
Simulcast on Crunchyroll
A group of very attractive young men in suits are part of a special organization that protects a fictional Mediterranean island. At the command of their leader, they must fight in a special duel for the hand of his daughter, the team’s only female member. Oh and they have super powers based on Arcana or something.
I’ll admit this caught me off guard at first, instantly starting with an action scene and for the most part resembling a Shonen battle series more than an otome game adaptation. I really like the look of it as well, the art is full of clean, bold lines and character designs involving suits. But as the pretty boys’ conversation devolved into bickering over our main heroine and a few longing gazes were cast, I was quickly reminded who this was meant for.
Jel’s Verdict? And the Fan Girls Go Wild
Clearly this show is out of my demographic and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I mean it does basically have the protagonist from Persona 3 so that’s gotta count for something. But I don’t see enough here to carry it beyond the good-looking dudes in suits so I’m moving on.
If I didn’t know better I would think this were a shonen. Lots of pretty boys here for sure but no implied surprise buttsex or dudes making out. Also the lead has some personality!
Verdict? Withholding Judgement
I am cautiously optimistic, this is not at all what I’ve come to expect from Otome games. I am certainly not inside the target audience but, The first episode was actually a lot of fun. If this show continues to be fun once it’s past the intro stuff I’ll be sticking around.
A mafia family hangs on an island and is basically a superhero team with tarot powers. The Don is retiring so all the dudes have to fight in a tournament so they can bang his daughter.
Irothtin’s Verdict? As You Know…
This show has the most blatant infodumps I’ve ever seen, and I’ve read Fate/Stay Night. Also, it is mostly boring. Pass.
Man you can just tell this comes from a story made for women. At least unlike most stories geared towards that otome genre, Arcana Famiglia actually has a lot of variance in their character designs. You got your generic pretty boys but at least not everyone is like that. I also like the idea of this arcane fight. In every shonen show I can think of my favorite moments were the tournament arcs. The idea of using tarot is interesting and I hope to see some really innovative takes on the arcane. Plus, doesn’t hurt that the only girl that actually is there is pretty hot.
Marlin’s Verdict? Strength To Keep Going
As long as this show pays off on the premise of interesting magic battles I can’t see me dropping it. Obviously we are going to have a love triangle between fool and death for lovers, but eh that’s really par for the course anyway.
