This week we’ve got an opening that’s truly FABUL…no, I can’t even bring myself to say it. It’s still pretty good though.
Although it’s now primarily known for starting a terrible meme about the show, this is a great song, and probably the best opening from a series that had, shall we say, inconsistent music. FLOW have a long and proud history of anime songs (including the first Code Geass opening ‘Colors’) and this is among their best. The big, stadium synth rock sound is perfect for the overblown melodrama of Code Geass and it helps that the strong is melodically very strong, with hard guitar sound never overwhelming Keigo Hayashi’s great vocal performance. Add the great little pause before the big chorus for a unique stylistic touch and you’ve got an anthemic opening that stands alongside the best of them.
