All Your Monies – July 9th

Hello, and welcome to All Your Monies, where The Glorio Blog’s resident toy and figure collecting crew will run down the last week’s new preorders, turning a loving or scathing eye over what’s been put out for you to spend your hard earned cash on.

Shiki Ryougi Garannodou (Kara no Kyokai)
Good Smile Company,  4820 JPY

Dragonzigg:
This is a pretty boring pose compensated by an amazing paintjob. I like it, but I’ve never quite understood the insane aftermarket prices it gathered in the wake of its original release, though  suppose ‘Type-Moon’ covers that. Regardless, I’m pleased this rerelease will let more people get their hands on it, especially at that very generous price.

Jel: I’ve always thought this was a beautiful figure and I wasn’t surprised it got so many votes in GSC’s recent re-release poll. I think the best thing about it is it’s just classy. Like I wouldn’t be ashamed to have it on display in my living room kind of classy. I’d almost grab it at that price but I don’t like buying figures of characters I’m not familiar with so I’m going to pass.

Lifesong: A gorgeous figure I have been wanting to add to my collection for a long time now. If you want her get her now while the price is cheap as I’m sure the aftermarket price will jump back up once she is released.

Itsatimmy: Not sure what it is about her but Shiki has always seemed hard to get but now thanks to GSC she just got a whole lot easer. I mean look at that price! From a design standpoint her pose is maybe little plain but I think it still looks nice. That great paint job is what really sells the figure though. A nice figure at a great price.

Asuka Langley Shikinami – Entry Plug Ver. (Rebuild of Evangelion)
Vertex, 30,800 JPY

Dragonzigg:
Stunning execution on the idea. If you’ve got a free shelf and an Eva collection that needs a centrepiece, this is undoubtedly the dream. But even given its huge size, that price seems way too much.

Jel: It’s very, very hard for me to get excited about an Evangelion figure. This looks fantastic but I can guarantee if there hasn’t been something better than this at a better price already, just wait a few months and there will be.

Lifesong: Too expensive for my blood. Pretty cool piece for any big Auska fans out there.

Itsatimmy: My goodness, this thing is huge! Definitely the centerpiece of any EVA or Asuka collection. It doesn’t look like they took any shortcuts as Asuka herself looks espically great. A big figure at a big price but you have half a grand to burn on this to cover shipping and possible customs I say go for it.

Beach Queens Saber Lily (Fate/Stay Night)
Wave, 3100 JPY

Dragonzigg: Not a big swimsuit guy, but I love the energy and activity in the pose here, and I think the simple design helps here. Really like those blue ribbons for a splash of colour, and it’s always nice to see Saber smiling.

Jel: Not a swimsuit guy either (not sure any of us are) but the Saber Beach Queens have been really tempting. That being said, this seems to be the most boring of the bunch. I’d recommend hunting down the recent Saber Zero or Saber Alter Beach Queens instead.

Lifesong: This screams leaner to me.  I don’t own any beach queens myself but that pose can’t be healthy for her longevity on your shelf.

Itsatimmy: In a line full of simple poses and occasionally bland paint schemes Saber with her dynamic pose is no doubt a welcome addition. Loving the way the blue ribbon sticks out from the rest of her swimsuit and the black one doing the same in her hair. A nice figure at that low Beach Queens price. If I was into collecting beach babes I would probably be all over this.

S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Zeronos (Kamen Rider Den-O)
Bandai, 2200 JPY

Dragonzigg: As the only guy who’s seen the show, it falls to me to note the amazing accuracy to what was shown on screen here. It’s a terrific reproduction, helped by the fact that Zeronos’ costume is one of the more simple ones of recent years. Still love his cow-eyes.

Jel: Kamen Rider figures come in a lot of different colors and this one is green. If you like green Kamen Riders this is probably a safe bet.

Lifesong: I really don’t have anything to say about this as I know know nothing about Kamen Rider and I don’t collect Figuarts.

Itsatimmy: Not too familiar with Kamen Rider but this looks like a nice addition to the Figuarts line nontheless. Nice low price too.

G.E.M Charlie Tunoku Yu Narukami (Persona 4)
Megahouse, 5290 JPY

Dragonzigg: It’s a decent reproduction of the Persona 4 protagonist sure but that still makes it kind of boring because…well, the P4 protagonist has a kind of boring design. In a game full of great looking characters, this is not one of them.

Jel: What’s up with those glasses? They look like goggles. This might be cool if it came with Izunagi or something but without his Persona, Yu is just a really good looking dude with a slightly open shirt. Even if that’s what you’re looking for you can probably do better in that price range.

Lifesong: Aigis aside I’ve never found the persona character designs to all that interesting so this is a pass for me. That said Megahouse make good stuff if you really want this character on your shelf you can’t go wrong here.

Itsatimmy: There are quite a few good things about this figure but I feel there is something missing. Maybe I am just not liking the pose or the character design is just meh but I have seen great figures of dudes before and this isn’t one of them. Paint is nice though.

Soul of Chogokin Mazinger Z (Mazinger Z)
Bandai, 29,750 JPY

Dragonzigg: Everything you’d expect from a SOC to the utmost extreme- more size, more detail, more amazing accessories, more awesome special features, more money than ever before. I want one.

Jel: Simply stunning figure that stirs the old mecha loving soul buried somewhere in me. The picture doesn’t even do it justice as the stand/case and accessories are fantastic. It’s too bad you have to be old enough to remember Mazinger and cashing in your retirement savings to afford it.

Lifesong: I don’t collect robots myself so I won’t be buying this but to my untrained eye I have to admit this does look pretty cool.

Itsatimmy: Not a moe bishoujo figure but still pretty damn cool. Lots and lots of details and the paint looks great, just be prepared to dig deep into those pockets.
