Random Manga Theatre 10: Gokiburi Gijinka

Hit the “Random” button and see what comes up! In this feature, we take a look at whatever manga the Random Number God decides to throw at us and find out if it’s worth your time.

This time: Gokiburi Gijinka, by Rui Tamati

Really short one this time, seeing as how this manga is only a couple chapters long and doesn’t really have much substance to those chapters. Sorry. While I usually try to pick random manga that seem at least interesting or entertaining, I figured this one was definitely weird enough to deserve a spot on this feature.

So, Moe Cockroaches. The title literally translates to “Cockroach Anthropomorphism”. Yeah, and you thought salmon were weird.

Little Gokicha-chan only wants to become friends with humans, but since she’s a cockroach, nobody wants anything to do with her. Not having much luck with making friends in her native Kanto region, she decides to travel north to Hokkaido. There are a few adventures along the way and a second cockroach girl, but that is pretty much the gist of it.

Verdict: Um…
Might be good for a momentary diversion, but nothing more. And that is assuming the very premise doesn’t weird you out – I, personally, do not like cockroaches at all. Their very presence irks me, skittering and about and being creepy and surviving nuclear war and all that…

Anyway, uh… the art is nice, I guess? This is better than Super Sadistic Sisters, but that’s really just damning with faint praise. Maybe take a look if you sympathize with household pests.
