Random Manga Theatre 22: Shurabara!

Hit the “Random” button and see what comes up! In this feature, we take a look at whatever manga the Random Number God decides to throw at us and find out if it’s worth your time.

This time: Shurabara!, with art by Watari Masahito and scenario by Kishi Haiya

We’ve got another quickie this week – it may not be a oneshot, but I’ve only been able to find a single scanlated chapter so it may as well be. Onward!

Alright, the deal here is that our protagonist, Kazuhiro, is a super nice guy. One of those doormat types, who figures he can get anywhere in life by just being nice to everyone. So, the entire school pretty much takes advantage of him – since he has a reputation for being nice and not refusing any requests, the girls all come to him to ask for help hooking up with the guys they like. So, he’s set up some thirteen couples by acting as a middle man, but doesn’t have an actual girlfriend himself. So, by now, he is absolutely desperate to have a girlfriend.

Cue three cute girls in the span of one day all asking him to be their boyfriend – their fake boyfriend. Because apparently he’s such a nice guy that they feel justified in taking advantage of him in such a way. But hey, he gets three cute fake girlfriends out of it, right??? Except now he has to deal with juggling all three “relationships” at once while still maintaining his nice guy reputation and oh god kill me now.

Verdict: Trash
Why are like 99% of harem protagonists terrible doormats with no personality? It’s boring, it’s not interesting, and it’s not funny. Hell, this entire manga is just boring, uninteresting, and unfunny. It’s formula harem garbage that nobody should spend their time reading. Move along.

  1. It’s certainly irritating when the MC is such a pushover. Granted, the harem genre itself is overused and, in my opinion, pretty much a plague on the anime industry, but I’d really love to see one where it doesn’t immediately shatter any plausibility and we get a cast of characters that actually seem genuine (with spines and all!)
