Hello, and welcome to All Your Monies, where The Glorio Blog’s resident toy and figure collecting crew (and Aquagaze) will run down the last week’s new preorders, turning a loving or scathing eye over what’s been put out for you to spend your hard earned cash on. This week, it runs on money!
Revoltech Yotsuba Renewal ver. (Yotsuba&!)
Kaiyodo, August, 2280JPY
Zigg: Pretty much obligatory right? This re-release actually incorporates a bunch of stuff that was previously only included in the ‘Summer Holiday ver’ like the amazing hat, so if you’ve been waiting on Yotsuba this is definitely the one to get.
Jel: I feel like at some point we should make it a requirement for all GLORIO members to have one of these. Seems to get re-released and re-packaged enough that getting one shouldn’t be a problem.
Lifesong: I still don’t own anything Yostuba. I should really fix that…
Revoltech Danboard (Yotsuba&!)
Kaiyodo, August, 2280JPY
Zigg: ALL HAIL
Jel: I suppose Danbo is less essential but… see previous statement.
Lifesong:I could make my own Danbo if I wanted. Maybe I should rename it since it would be made out of amiami boxes… Amibo?
Yoshino (Date A Live)
Plum, July, 9700JPY
Zigg: I’m a sucker for super elaborate figures and as a result I really like this. I’ts very ‘busy’ but the just makes it look over the top in the right way and the unusual colour choices work very well here. My only concern is the price, which is probably a bit high for a non top-tier manufacturer.
Jel: I have no idea what is happening here but there sure is a lot of interesting things to look at. I’ll give it bonus points for creativity I suppose, but the sculpt kind of has that chunky garage kit look to it. It’s also REALLY expensive, so be ready to pay up for your odd magical bunny loli girl statue.
Lifesong: This Yoshino is looking good. Her expression is perfect and her personality is expressed well by her posture. This may seem an odd thing to notice… I love the shading on her knees it’s cute? is that the right word for it? I am not sure. Also, the ice base is a nice touch.
figma Rei Kuroki (Vividred Operation)
Max Factory, October, 3190JPY
Zigg:I don’t know if it’s just these photos, but those stocks look sludge brown rather than black, which really doesn’t do the figma any favours. otherwise, it’s a decent enough rednition, though I question exactly how those swappable shorts work. This is also way too expensive – at least Akane came with her bike, whereas here you’re just getting standard accessories.
Jel: She’s the Blue Ranger, right? Pretty well armed with guns AND that magic wing bow thing too. The gun tucked in her short shorts thing, which I’m assuming is supposed to be sexy, looks kind of odd in figma form. Other than that though, seems to be what you’d expect for the next figma in the Vividred line.
Lifesong: Not Himawari… I don’t care.
Petanko Charlie Tunoku/Rise Kujikawa
Penguin Parade, September, 2100JPY
Zigg: I’ve always liked Petankos in theory, but they seem to me something that should be a blind boxed trading toy rather than something you’d pay near figma money for. These two are adorable but don’t change that opinion.
Jel: I don’t like the Petanko line. They just look like boring nendoroids. I suppose there’s a certain collectible appeal to having them all the same size and same pose and it seems highly unlikely we’ll ever see these two in nendo form, but I’ll pass.
Lifesong: These just don’t do anything for me. Instead of looking like chibis the just look like ugly children. That line is fine one for sure, but I don’t like them.
Kazuma Kuwabara (YuYu Hakusho)
Kotobukiya, October, 5490JPY
Zigg: I have no experience of YuYu Hakusho but dear god that hair is amazing. This guy looks like he stepped out of Cromartie High School.
Jel: It’s kind of rare to see a really well made male figure outside of Alter’s Altair line, let alone one from a 20 year old shonen series. Kuwabara doesn’t interest me personally, but I can appreciate for that much at least.
Lifesong: That hair… I am tempted to buy this just for that.
Iro: A mulberry is a tree and Kuwabara is a man! Complete with Spirit Sword and infamous meatloaf hair. The pose could use a little work, though; it’s the kind of pose an old man would use to tell kids to get off his lawn.
