Recap: Teoria explains the conflicts origins to Team Rabbits as Jiart reports back to the Wulgaru commanders.

Iro’s Thoughts:
Lots of infodumping and exposition this week, though it all works out because A) we’re ten episodes in and already invested by now and B) it starts ramping us back up towards action after last week’s slow and somber recovery episode. The big revelation here is that the Wulgaru’s goal is to basically harvest humanity as the latest part of some grand scheme that involved sowing life on various planets in the hopes one of the new species would evolve in such a way to save the Wulgaru. Yes, humans were created as an offshoot of Wulgaru – we look like them, not the other way around.

Apparently Izuru and Teoria (I can finally stop calling her “alien girl”) had some sort of past together before his memory was wiped upon enrolling in the academy, but of course just telling us would be too easy and it’s deemed classified information. And, unfortunately, this continues to develop the seeming love triangle stirring between Izuru, Kei, and Teoria. Fun times, except not. I don’t really like love triangle plots, but MJP has handled itself incredibly well everywhere else, so I hope things won’t get too out of hand. Speaking of, Kei keeping quiet about such things is tied back into the plot. She and Asagi are clearly more subdued and contemplative than the rest of the team, and as a result they aren’t adapting as well to the JURIA System in their mecha.

The back third or so of the episode shifts perspective to the Wulgaru, sowing the seeds for pretty much what all of us predicted the second we saw that the aliens had their own squad of quirky personalities. We have five heroes, they have five villains – it was obvious we’d end up with some sort of match-up deal somehow. And just to make it amusingly clear, Jiart flat out steps into the meeting and basically says “HEY GUYS EVERYONE PICK YOUR FAVORITE, I GOT DIBS ON THE MAIN DUDE”.

The discovery of a Wulgaru ship on Mars and Team Rabbits going on an Izuru-prompted training montage mid-episode promises that we’ll get some more robot action next week. I’m looking forward to it.
