Recap: Everyone does a bunch of inconsequential stuff on their day off.
Iro’s Thoughts:’
This episode might be the first time I’ve been bored with MJP, and only the show’s stellar track record so far kept me from being frustrated. Everyone does very little on their day off: Kei and Tamaki get carted around town for publicity stunts, Asagi is dragged around shopping by the kid in his pit crew, Izuru draws manga, and Suruga floats in space all day, waiting for a glimpse of some sort of ship/satellite. It mostly serves as an opportunity for Team Rabbits to bond with their pit crews and with each other, but none of it has any real impact on the actual plot.
I get the feeling that this was MJP‘s version of the clip show episode. There’s an extended segment right in the middle that goes through the entire launch sequence of the mecha for no adequate reason, and neither Izuru nor Suruga say a single word all episode. It’s not unheard of for two-cour shows to have something like this around this point, but it’s still somewhat disappointing. Thankfully, the next episode preview seems to be promising a return to action and narrative, so hopefully MJP can keep up the quality.
