Premise: Police officer Hidenori Goto accidentally runs into quirky male model Masayoshi Hazama and learns of his secret identity as the real life superhero Samurai Flamenco.

Zigg‘s Verdict: Identity Crisis

This show seems to have trouble deciding what it wants to be. One one level it seems they’re going for a quirky buddy comedy that gently ribs superheroes and the whole genre. On the other hand there appears to be a more serious story going on here, but that one can’t decide whether it’s playing it straight with the inspirational power of heroism or deconstructing exactly what sort of man would dress up in dumb clothes and get himself hurt. The net result is a sort of stolid, sludgy episode that never really goes anywhere. It’s not funny enough to make you laugh, but it’s hardly dramatic or profound enough to be touching or interesting as a character piece. My patience for manchildren in anime is already low and Masayoshi doesn’t do much to change that, while Manglobe’s artwork is subdued and lacks the flair somethign like this desperately needs. I’m loathe to write it off because there’s clearly potential here, but I was unmoved by this first installment.

Lifesong’s Verdict: I Want To Punch This Idiot

This guy is just so dumb, I can’t get over it. I was told that it was kind of like Welcome to the NHK expect in public and that seems apt. This guy is the polar opposite of a Hikikomori, same level of delusion, but he acts it out in public. I guess hes an adult chuunibyo? Unlike Rikka, he isn’t cute at all. I am tempted to watch this just to see how badly he gets crushed, but I don’t think I’ll survival the moral of the story long enough to get that far.
