Recap: Raishin is tasked by the disciplinary committee to track down Cannibal Candy, who has been destroying automations. He also goes on a date with Charlotte, despite Yaya’s objections and dismay.
Timmy’s Thoughts: It nice to see a protagonist use his head and knowing his limitations instead of jumping head first into a fight they can’t win just to show the disparity between them and the antagonist. The latter of which is what I expected to kick off this episode but thankfully didn’t happen. I find it much more interesting this way and I think they did a fine job while getting the same point across. Giving Raishin an alternate entry into the competition to beating one of the entrants for it is a curious choice as well, and I look forward to seeing how that plays out.
Aside from that Yaya still very much wants in Raishin’s pants, though her reactions to his date with Charlotte make me wonder if there is far more to this then it just being a funny running gag. Her piling up tear crystal things with Sigmund there offering shallow comforts whilst drowning in them was a pretty humorous scene though.
As for the date it is great to see Raishin and Charlotte both open up a bit and get to know them a bit. I suspect this date was a ploy to eliminate her from the possible Cannibal Candy candidates, but it was nice to see a different side of her. Only time will tell if things develop between them any further, but for now we have the suspense of whatever past sins she seems to have.
Overall another fun and interesting episode and by the looks of it we will some sort of showdown next week to make up for the lack of one this week.
Lifesong’s Thoughts: I can’t help finding this setting far more interesting than any of it’s characters. Charlotte and our protagonist are growing on me, but both feel rather dull and while I find Yaya and Sigmund more interesting, but I don’t think they will be enough to carry this story long term either. I did find it neat that Raishin turned himself into a doll of sorts, or uses doll magic on himself? I’m not really sure how it works, but it sounds cool!
That opening scene was pretty intense. Controlling six dolls at once almost feels like cheating, but I assume that guy is the last boss and that Raishin has plenty of powering up to do before the final showdown. For now we have some creeper eating dolls. I hope we get see a confrontation with some more awesome doll magic next week.
