All Your Monies: July 28th 2014

Hello, and welcome to All Your Monies, where The Glorio Blog’s resident toy and figure collecting crew (and Aquagaze) will run down the last week’s new pre-orders, turning a loving or scathing eye over what’s been put out for you to spend your hard earned cash on. This week, Zigg was on the convention trail so Timmy made the picks. It shows.

Rikka Takanashi (Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! REN )
Kotobukiya, December, ¥9,800

Timmy: The Rikka we have been waiting for is finally here, and boy does she not disappoint. That great face with it’s mischievous smirk is is but the tip of the iceberg here. Great pose, wonderful sculpt with all those tiny details, superb paint that brings her uniform and those pink shoes to life, and one crazy ass weapon for a backdrop. If you are anything close to a Chuuni or Rikka fan this, hands down, is the figure of her to get.

Jel: Welp, there you have it folks: This is THE Rikka to own. From the dynamic pose and perfect sculpt to the massive weapon incorporated into the design, this captures all the mischievous energy and imagination of the character. I don’t think I have a bad thing to say about this except maybe the base itself is kind of boring but I wonder if that will change before final production.

Lifesong: This Rikka is fantastic. It captures her arrogant personality in the cutest way possible. The fantasy base is a nice touch. This is the Rikka to own.

Sachiko Koshimizu (THE IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls)
Phat, January, ¥8,800 (¥10,800 with base)

Timmy: As is becoming customary Phat offers up another superb Idolm@ster girl for our consumption and she is looking pretty great. Sachiko”s pose is pretty interesting here with her in the middle of some sort of leg splits type of move with her chain and bow tails flying all about to add some dynamism. And add to that some pretty stellar craftsmanship from the bottom of the boots and the boots in general to her outfit, wings, and great face, Phat leaves us with another pretty awesome idol. It’s nice to see that the gaudy base is optional this time around but at the same time if you are buying this you would be silly not to throw in another 20 bucks for that base.

Jel: I’m surprised we didn’t include the picture with the massive extra base, make sure you click the link and check it out. Even with the base though, it’s hard to tell what’s going on here. Did she trip and fall on stage? Is she laying down on purpose so you can see her garter belt? Maybe a little of both? Either way it feels kind of unnecessarily pervy. As with nearly Cinderella Girls figure I’ve seen the sculpt looks great though and I like the soft purple color scheme. Maybe she’ll get a nice normal standing figure if Good Smile Company’s line gets around to her?

Lifesong: Another lovely Idolmaster figure from Phat. I don’t know the character, but this figure oozes personality. She is clearly sexed up for whatever performance she is putting on, but her confident expression sells the look pretty well. She is sexy and she knows it, she wants you to know it too. If your up for that this is looking to be a figure to own.

Yotsuba Koiwai (Yotsuba&!)
Kotobukiya, December, ¥4,800

Timmy: Not a whole lot to say here aside from the fact that this is Yotsuba, it is adorable, and everyone should buy like 10. I am not sure how this compares to their Cu-Poche line but it is neat to see Kotobukiya getting more action figures under their belts.

Jel: Pretty much any poseable Yotsuba is a good thing. I find it very interesting that kotobukiya is making one though as they’re not known for poseables outside of the fake nendoroid cu-poche line. If they are planning on entering figma/revoltech territory I am all for it, although I must admit that price tag seems a bit high. It also doesn’t look too different than the previous revoltech releases so if you already have one of those I’m not sure that awesome teddy bear would even be enough to justify another purchase.

Lifesong: You can pose the bear with Yostsuba. What else even needs to said? This figure is awesome.

Nendoroid Mashiro Mitsumine (Engaged to the Unidentified)
Good Smile Company, November, ¥3,889

Timmy: Very cute, and Mashiro seems to shrink down into Nendoroid form quite well, of course they were pretty much already there in the ED where it looks like most of the accessories and poses come from. I would have liked to see maybe more accessories as well as a terrified face to match a future Benio release, but at the same time the price is nice and low as is so it is hard to complain too much. Making the purple dino a GSC online store exclusive is kind of a dick move and not really worth it, though I guess I should be used to that kind of thing at this point.

Jel: How could you not want this in nendoroid form?

Lifesong: What could be even cuter than a Yostuba figure? Mashiro in her dancing pose, that is what. I absolutely loved this anime and Mashiro is probably best captured by a nendroid. What I really want is an awesome Kobeni figure to go with her, but for now just having a Mashiro nendroid is pretty awesome.

Cu-poche Asuna (Sword Art Online)
Kotobukiya, December, ¥4,200

Timmy: I am still trying to decide if I actually like these Cu-Poches Kotobukiya keeps putting out, but Asuna does look pretty nice here. The party member health bar overlay is neat but it would be really nice to see a lot more accessories then that. Where are my menu overlays and glowing butter knife?

Jel: Isn’t this like 2 years too late? Sinon is the new hotness now. Asuna doesn’t even wear that armor anymore. Eh, who am I kidding? I’m sure this will sell like crazy, or at least as crazy as a cu-poche can sell. It’s certainly a good rendition of Asuna and as I always I acknowledge she has a great character design, but I’m pretty sick of her at this point.

Lifesong: I’m not a big fan of this line, but I do love Asuna’s character design and I’m cool with seeing more of it in figure form. All things considered I think she looks pretty good here.

Saber Bride (Fate/EXTRA CCC)
Clayz, Spring 2015, ¥12,000

Timmy: This looks pretty neat with all the burnt cloth, zippers and belts, and transparent headdress. And it is really nice to see a Saber Bride all zipped up with out her boobs hanging out for a change. The the outfit seems a bit glossy, but if you don’t mind the large scale and prefer this to the other more cleavage laden offerings out there this seems competent enough.

Jel: Saber Bride is still one of the dumbest designs ever but if you HAVE to own one this is a really nice rendition. I kind of like that they made her a bit curvy and they nailed the weird Fate/Extra eyes. Not sure about the paint work as it’s so glossy it almost looks ceramic, but other than that its a solid rendition.

Lifesong: No, just no. You can’t do Saber Extra without getting her personality right first and foremost. The Saber Bride outfit is no exception. She needs to be owning the look and that face just says derp to me. That pose isn’t much better. What is she even doing? Using her sword to prop herself up while she shows off her butt? You know that could probably be done with this character, but nothing about the way this came out looks right to me.

Racing Miku Sepang Version (Good Smile Racing)
FREEing, January, ¥10,926

Timmy: This is some pretty new territory for Miku to be in. Its is good that she brought her cute, cheerful expression and attitude, as I don’t think it would work nearly as well otherwise. The wings and skirt pedals are neat and I like them, but I wonder if they are a bit too over extravagant and that she would look better without them in a straight up racing bikini instead. Otherwise her pose is pretty fantastic and full of energy and as mentioned that face is damn adorable. It is also nice that sign is removable but the way she is leaning on it she might look silly without it. Overall I really like this though. It is very flashy and very fun and I am half tempted to get it just because of that.

Jel: Miku, where did your clothes go? I”m almost surprised GSC let this one through to be honest as it’s a bit more revealing than their usual portrayals of the character. I’d say if you need a Racing Miku fix get on that rad figma instead.

Lifesong: I actually didn’t realize this was Miku when I first saw her. She is kind of cute I guess. I think they were trying to make her sexy and it just didn’t work. Her outfit is tacky without being amusing enough to really pull it off.

  1. aside from Saber bride pretty much everything else I liked here just works, so much good this week: imas, Yotsua, Rikka and Mashiro-tan hnnnnnnnggghhh!

  2. I’m not a huge fan of Rikka but I think she wins out this week. That figure just fits her so well.

The major issue I have with most Saber figures (Extra or otherwise) is that the face is just so far off what she really looks like. Out of the many Saber figures out there I only like a select few.
