Premise

One day, the five members of the Senko High School Literary Club receive superpowers. In the absence of anything to actually do with them, their lives proceed as normal. Well, until something actually does happen to them.

Gee’s verdict: The Highlights Of This Anime Were Things From Other Anime

Inferno Cop showing up in the OP was the highlight of the entire episode. That should give you an indication of how this anime plays out. The sad thing is that between its premise and its execution, everything in Inou Battle has been done before, done better, and done more interestingly. It’s a shame that so little of Trigger’s personality shines through. Gainax has actually done quite a few notable adaptations in its past that became more famous than the original source material, solely because they were willing to mess around with it so much. Unfortunately, this lacks any of that spark. You can see a bit of it here and there with some of the effects animation during the fights, but beyond a couple of Trigger cameos, anyone could have done this adaptation. And while I understand the need to do anime like this from time to time to pay the bills, it’s a shame Trigger couldn’t or wasn’t able to do more with it.

Iro’s verdict: When Boring LNs Become Commonplace

It’s hard to find good words to say about this show. It’s also hard to find bad words, because there’s hardly anything to say about this show at all. Inou-Battle feels as generic as they come, from its character archetypes to the animation, and even the cast’s spread of superpowers. None of it was terribly offensive, but similarly there was no real charm to any of it. Apart from the scant references to Trigger’s past properties (Inferno Cop, as shown above, and KLK-style boxing gloves at one point), nothing in Inou-Battle caught my attention. Skip it.

Marlin’s verdict: Everyone Has The Most Broken Powers

Seriously, I have no idea how there could be any tension in this show. Is the entire idea that every week its going to be gags where they use their powers in really mundane ways and never get to do anything exciting. I can’t see how this will become enjoyable at the very least. The power on the Gainaxing club president is also the most vague one I’ve ever heard. What constitutes “original state”? Can she control what things look like? Otherwise why wouldn’t clothes just go to their original state of being cloth, or being a cotton plant, etc etc. The most bewildering of all is the idea that the girl knows she can steal powers despite the fact that they’re the only superpowered people she’s met. Also, if she’s been spying on them all this time, wouldn’t she clearly know what they can do already? This show is just straight up dumb.
