“From Dawn till Dusk”
Tuesdays at 12:00 pm EST on Crunchyroll
While waiting for their airship ride home, Willem and the girls meet a lycanthrope woman who is seeking help from the military. A local gang is threatening to assassinate her father, who is trying to pass a bill supporting the rights of disfeatured people in the city.
It seems we are alternating week to week between episodes I like and ones I don’t and I had a few issues with this one. First up, congrats to the show on going next level furry with the waifu bait. I can live with Ms. Dorio’s design in itself but they just had to go there with the whole “touching her belly” thing. Between that and Nephren insisting on sitting on Willem’s lap, it’s just more fuel for the “last man on Earth” harem fantasy that continues to drag the show down. Same for Ctholly’s little crush really. I could also let that one slide on it’s own so long as it seems to be one sided, but hey, context.
What really irked me this week though was Willem’s response when Dorio asks for help. I understand from a legal standpoint why the military would not want to intervene in the town’s affairs (that should be handled by the adorable golem police) but he talked about using “righteousness” as an excuse for violence. To me, that boils down to the idea that there is no concept of universal right and wrong and that attitude drives me crazy. Threatening to murder a man for trying to help other people is wrong any way you spin it. Granted Willem does eventually take action and he may have been bluffing so no one would realize he was using Dorio as bait, but I’m not sure we were meant to think that point of view was wrong. Either way I just wanted to point out I don’t like that way of thinking.
Finally, something seemed off about the Crunchyroll subs this week. Normally I don’t like to complain about that kind of thing as I can’t hold that against the quality of the show itself, but I did feel like the dialogue felt less natural than usual. I wonder if they had production issues or ran out of time or something. Hopefully it was just a fluke. That aside, I guess we’ll have to see where they go with this new type of beast. I’m still guessing this whole situation will lead to some kind of reform for the fairy weapon program. We’ll find out soon enough.
