  1. Aw, mystery anime don’t always suck! Mouryou no hako is a mystery and it’s one of the best anime I’ve watched. …then again it’s a novel adaptation (not LN, an actual, honest to god novel).

Oo-oku is indeed a very prestigious show! For one, it’s based on a manga by Yoshinaga Fumi, who was already famous before releasing this manga. The manga Oo-oku has won a whole bunch of awards and is generally extremely well regarded, and it was made into a TV show that became really popular on its own right, and well-regarded as well, so the anime has a lot to live up to. I’ve read a bit of the manga and it was actually pretty good, but honestly it couldn’t really hold my attention. It’s one of the titles that I really want to love, so I hope it’ll work better for me in animation.

Re: GoHands, I’d say they’re kind of like Gonzo was back in the day. They have a house style that they’ll stick to come hell or high water, and 99% of their output is basically crap. And then by some kind of magical accident they crossed paths with Maeda Mahiro and somehow ended up making Gankutsuou, that made all that crap before and after it worth it. Not saying GoHands has already made their Gankutsuou, though, but who knows…!

    • I think GoHands could fully embrace their weird style and use it to make something artsy and surreal. Let them work with Kunihiko Ikuhara or something… god what a cursed suggestion I instantly regret.

    • I do end up watching some of the fun ones like (hopefully) this vending machine thing, I guess we’ll see how the anime goes.
