Premise

A youthful looking witch named Djeeta Alissa finds a baby in the forest and decides to raise it as her daughter. She names the girl Viola and she grows up fast. By the time she reaches 16, no one can tell who’s the child and who’s the adult.

With a few tweaks, this could have been decent. The core of the show is a surprisingly healthy mother/daughter relationship built on love and trust. Both characters generally act their age despite their appearances, which is supposed to be the point. I even liked some of the jokes, like the goofy looking phoenix they summon that looks like it was drawn by a grade schooler.

Unfortunately, Viola has breasts and like many anime, the creators cannot help but make that the focus. To sell the joke, her character is intentionally designed to look older and sexier than she really is, which doesn’t work because they also emphasize that mentally, SHE IS STILL A CHILD. I can’t just ignore that as half the episode has her literally smashing her boobs into her mother’s face and the other half is the other witches talking about how she’ll take a lover soon… gross.

To be fair, what is actually depicted on screen is pretty tame. There are no creeper cams flying up Viola’s dress or like, tentacles or anything like that (yet). But there’s no denying there’s an emphasis on Viola’s body, which adds a layer of creepiness that I don’t want to deal with. Even if you took that away, I don’t know if this show has the chops to be more than a decent, feel good comedy. So with that all said, I don’t recommend watching this.
