  1. Re: Senpai wa otokonoko, I’ve been reading the manga for a while now (haven’t finished it yet, but I’m on the last chapters), and honestly it’s quite lovely. It starts out a bit rocky I think because it’s the author’s first manga, but it really does all the things it seems to be doing (gender & sexuality & figuring yourself out, but also family, friendship, and so on), and it has a really nice, sure touch to all these, while being very earnest and relatable. I think a lot of people are going to expect something like Wandering Son or Shimanami tasogare and be very disappointed, but if you just take it for what it is and don’t expect it to focus solely on the queer aspect, I think it’s much worth watching.

As for Twilight Out of Focus, as far as I’m concerned, it’s one of THOSE shows I usually get with shoujo manga adaptations, where I desperately wish they’d adapt one of those manga that are not the sort of really middle-of-the-road mainstream romances that I find mind-numbingly boring regardless of the main characters’ gender. (With BL it’s usually extra meh because really, genderswitch one of the guys, tweak the setting so that it’s one of the popular “oh no suddenly I started living together with this really hot guy!” shoujo romances, and… there’s really barely any difference.) Hell, they could just adapt at least one manga, shoujo or BL, that is not focusing on the romance! They exist! Sigh.

    • That’s good to hear on Senpai is an Otokonoko. I think I said in the episode I felt like it was a nice people being nice to each other kind of show more than anything, I could see how the more serious themes are not the main focus. I guess the important thing is they treat them with the respect and gravity they need when they do touch on them.
