  1. Oohh, Escaflowne and Gankutsuou… did you have to trash talk two of my favorite shows ever, anime or otherwise? 😀 Nah, just joking, to each their own, if they weren’t for you that’s fine. If you’ll allow just one thing though, I think it’s a whole lot of simplification to boil the not-mecha-fight parts of Esca down to “just an isekai shoujo romance”. Aside of “isekai” in those days not really being what it is now, and romance not being its sole focus even when mechas are not fighting, I think the character work in Esca is really good, with each main character having multiple aspects and layers to their personality that all come into play as the story develops. It really doesn’t do the show justice to sum it up as “just an isekai romance where the girl only cares about which boy she should smooch”. In my opinion and all, just in case anyone happens to read this who hasn’t seen it yet. (As for Gankutsuou, I can’t even pretend to be even vaguely objective about that show, so I’ll just sit on my hands. 😀 )

As for Senpai wa otokonoko, well, choices were made with that show, and then the decision to end it with a movie… nah. It’s a pity, because while the show is not bad as it is, it could have been so much better.

  2. I only kept up with Nier just to see how they’d end it. It’s interesting that the reason why I was never satisfied with its ending is similar to why Gee had a problem with Dededede: they’re reconstructed robots, they could never be the original 2B and 9S. Hopefully next season is better.
