I actually do remember the 1st episode of Honey and Clover being not as great as the rest of it. Part of me is thinking enjoyment of that show may rely on being college-aged. I remember my empathy with the characters’s ennui being very intense.
As for current stuff, I can’t lie: I really disliked the slap dash way Beastars was paced this season. Haru and Legosi was such an important emotional core, it feels lifeless with it so scarcely present now.
I never went to college and that might be why some of those stories don’t stick with me. I can see the potential in Honey and Clover though, even if I was a little annoyed with the first episode.
Totally agree on Beastars. I feel like I’m just coasting along to see what wild thing will happen to Legosi next, which is fun, but not as satisfying as it used to be.
