So I finally finished the 3 Gundam compilation movies on Netflix and now that I’ve seen it all I’m really shocked I didn’t realize how much in Mecha shows calls back to it: the first episode of Eva, the eulogy scene in Code Geass, the DaiGurren in TTGL. Wild.
In all fairness, this is a universal reaction. You don’t truly realize how much the modern mecha genre rests on the foundation of Gundam until you’ve experienced some of it for yourself.
