Premise

A mysterious virus that turns people into cats, a “Nyandemic” if you will, has been terrorizing the globe. One touch from a cat and you could become one too. Basically it’s like zombies, but with cats.

Jel’s verdict: I Would Not Last 30 Seconds

Maybe it’s my super low expectations going into this, but I kind of liked the first episode? I appreciate they made some attempt to consider what a cat-zombie apocalypse would be like and not just do a zombie story with cats. It boils down to this: yeah, I would have no problem taking a shotgun to a group of zombies, but could I do the same to a group of cats? Nah, I’d be turned immediately.

By making the main character both a muscle bound action movie hero AND someone who deeply loves cats, we get a pretty fun contrast. Sure, he could physically get out of most of the dangerous situations he ends up in, but that would involve hurting cats and that’s out of the question. All of this is mostly very dry, almost documentary style presentation, which I find funny, but I could see a version that is a little more campy and ridiculous that might have been better.

So I’m a little surprised to say I’ll give the cat zombie show one more episode. Maybe the joke will wear off and I’ll drop it later, but I’ll at least give it a chance.
