Melphiera Marchalrayd is a noblewoman with a hobby gossiped about by her peers – a taste for good food, and in particular, monster meat. Not to be deterred from her passion despite the judgment (and her parents’ insistence that she secure a suitable husband no matter what), Melphiera finds a surprise match in “Blood-Mad Duke” Aristide Rogier du Galbraith – adoptive brother to the prince, and a skilled hunter with his own obsession with slaying monsters.
Artemis’ verdict: Mildly Seasoned
For my money, if you’re looking for your foodie anime show of the season, you’ll probably be better off watching season 2 of Campfire Cooking in Another World. Still, for female-led rom-com anime fans, especially those set against fantastical pseudo-medieval backdrops (a dime a dozen in the medium), you could also do far worse than Pass the Monster Meat, Milady!.
Granted, the series doesn’t do anything groundbreaking – beyond the gimmick of its main character being the monster-loving foodie despite her status as a high-ranking noblewoman, it honestly doesn’t have much at all to set itself apart from the plethora of other anime with very similar generic ye olde fantasy settings. Nonetheless, it’s a non-offensive watch, and mildly entertaining if you’re after some light-hearted shoujo fare that, aside from the occasional blood splatter (courtesy of our duke monster slayer, and possibly followed up by some post-slaying butchery for culinary purposes), will almost certainly stick to the realm of PG-13 content.
… Maybe pass if you’re a vegetarian though.
