Jel’s verdict: I Wish This Was a PA Works Show

It never ceases to amaze the small things people manage to make entire anime and manga out of. In this case, they have somehow based an entire series on doing laundry. Yes, I know this is supposed to be about Kinme’s passion for her work and relationship with her community blah blah blah but let’s be real, the bulk of this episode is her cleaning things and running her laundry business. I mean like, entire scenes of her figuring out how to get out a stain like some kind of brilliant detective, brushing and steam cleaning until the job is done.

This may sound kind of clever in theory, but in practice I was very bored watching this. Everything is very calm and smooth, there is no conflict, just Kinme running her business and her friendly neighbors getting their laundry done in their sleepy, seaside town. It feels kind of like a PA Works show but with considerably less energy. What’s wild is in my research I discovered a very important plot twist in Kinme’s background that does NOT get mentioned in this first episode. That seems like a bad decision, it would have made this so much more intriguing. Instead, I think a lot of people like me will just get bored and bounce off of it.

That said, even that plot twist would probably not be enough to keep me long term. I don’t think it would impact the scene to scene vibe of the show. So I’ll be skipping out on this one, it wasn’t bad but just not enough going on to make it worth my time.
