The Roundup: Summer 2014 Volume 8
Aldnoah.Zero drags our writers down from their usual disappointment to shame. Fortunately the rest of this season’s comedies hold strong, even with Barakamon taking the week off.
Aldnoah.Zero drags our writers down from their usual disappointment to shame. Fortunately the rest of this season’s comedies hold strong, even with Barakamon taking the week off.
Kashima is upset because she thinks Hori is ignoring her when in reality he’s just exhausted from splitting time between the manga and the Drama Club. Nozaki’s crew brainstorms ideas to help lighten Hori’s background work while Kashima takes drastic action to make her Senpai notice her.
Lifesong begins his mid season cuts, Argvollen and Rail Wars surprise Gee and Timmy respectively, and I try to convince myself that this week’s Sabagebu! is scathing social commentary.
Kanbaru begins her senior year trying to find herself now that Araragi and Senjougahara have graduated. She investigates rumors surrounding a mysterious “Devil Lord” and encounters some faces from her past.
Nozaki is feeling down about not having any hobbies and asks Chiyo to hang out with him on a rare day off. Mikoshiba is asked to model for the art club and agrees, with hilarious results.
Glasslip and Argevollen heat up plot wise and fan service-wise respectively while Sabagebu proves it’s both funny AND environmentally conscious. Who knew?
Back in the real world, Kirito tries to come to terms with the 3 people he killed during Sword Art Online while Sinon notices a change in her own feelings after her last battle.
Wakamatsu is tired of Seo targeting him at basketball practice and decides to confront her. Unfortunately, he consults Nozaki's manga as a reference for how to approach her. Nozaki falls ill and enlists Chiiyo, Hori, and Wakamatsu to help him make his deadline.
We hit the midpoint of the season and the entire crop of great comedies are still going strong. Locodol finally ends Sabagebu’s header image streak and no matter how frustrated he gets, Gee is still watching Argevollen and Aldnoah.Zero.
As he narrows down the identity of DEATH GUN, Kirito recalls a traumatic experience from his SAO days. After winning his next round, he faces off with Sinon in their final qualifying round.
Nozaki’s editor stops by, leading to horror stories about his obnoxious previous editor and a meeting with his neighbor, a fellow manga author. After reviewing Nozaki’s upcoming manuscripts, the editor suggests he learn how to see things from the heroine’s point of view. Naturally, Nozaki takes his advice too far.
Casual murder continues to dominate this season as Akame ga kill! throws up death flags everywhere, Sabagebu! loses a few good men to some deadly toilet humor, and Locodol kills off some… chocolate tanukis?
Kirito and Sinon enter the Bullet of Bullets tournament but their relationship goes sour when she discovers he’s a guy. Kirito faces his first round opponent and discovers the harsh realities of… oh who am I kidding? He murders him with ease.
Mikoshiba stays over at Nozaki’s place and stay up all night playing a dating sim. The next day, Mikoshiba is invited to a mixer and seeks advice from Nozaki and Chiyo.
Battle lines are drawn again over Aldnoah.Zero, Rail Wars! has even less trains and more boobs than usual, and Sabagebu! manages to make “may the force be with you” jokes funny again.
Kirito logs onto GGO and tries to prepare for his mission despite his complete lack of knowledge when it comes to guns. He encounters Sinon in town, who helps him choose his equipment.
Our weekly coverage fills up as we (or should I say Lifesong) add a few new shows. Opinions continue to be split on Aldnoah.Zero but the flurry of oddly named upstart comedies stay unanimously entertaining.
When Chiyo discover’s Nozaki’s background artist visits him late at night, she investigates to see if he’s spending time alone with another girl. While hanging around Mikoshiba, she meets some new friends from the drama club.
Back in the real world, Sinon tries to cope with a tragic incident in her past. Kirito parts ways with Asuna and his friends, making the transfer from ALO to GGO.
Our first batch of Summer shows hit the Roundup with several Slice of Life surprises and mecha cliché disappointments. Throw in some extreme(ly censored) violence and it’s going to be a fun summer!
