And so another GLORIO year comes to a close and we’ve reached the moment everyone has been waiting for: our picks the best shows of 2015.
And so another GLORIO year comes to a close and we’ve reached the moment everyone has been waiting for: our picks the best shows of 2015.
This year I decided to do something different from my usual year end figure awards post and instead ended up arranging an interview with the figure company, Myethos. I hope you will all enjoy getting to know a bit more about them as I have.
In this very article last year, I wrote about how 2014 had rebounded from the relative disappointment of 2013 with a new emphasis on original, creator driven shows and a willingness to branch out into new territory. It appears though that anime is very much like Star Trek, since we were definitely on the downswing in 2015. The industry felt in flux, torn between its commercial and artistic passions, and the result was a messy slate of shows which lacked cohesion or a level of overall quality to match last year’s riches. I must admit that these last 12 months have been a difficult time for me to be a fan, and I’ve fallen slightly out of love with the medium as a result. Why is that?
Hi, I’m Artemis McBishiehots. You may remember me from such high quality articles as All Your Honies, and it’s a pleasure – nay, a privilege – to be handing out the awards tonight for the most memorable males who graced the screen in 2015. What, you thought all my dreams would wither like dried-up flowers…
Unfortunately Gee is unable to join in our year end shenanigans, however, now might be a good time to go back and check out some of my favorite “Best of Gee-Man” highlights:
Oh hey, it’s Christmas! Seems like yesterday when 2014 was coming to an end and I figured 2015 couldn’t possibly be worse. Yeah, that, err, sure backfired spectacularly, didn’t it? Anyhow, we’re in the middle of our annual retrospective blowout and just like last year, that means that I get to blissfully ignore what this blog is actually about and yell at you to go like the music I like.
There was a lot of bad anime this year, and Japanese drama does a pretty good job of filling the spare time you get when you drop all of those awful magical school harem shows. Here’s what I watched this year.
Last year I was blessed with some great romance shows that made up for just how few had been released, but this year I have to strain to string together more than two or three shows together where romance was the most appealing factor. Still, there were a few really good things to talk about. Snow White remained captivating and adorable all the way to the break, and Yamada-kun’s heartfelt romance almost made up for it’s runaway train of a final stretch. With all that, I’ll try to stick to my niche as much as I can before going off the deep end once the Ero-Kawaii-tier Awards start flying around.
I made an angry list last year, so this time I figured I’d go with a more long-form retrospective that hopefully didn’t end up quite as acerbic, but, well… read ahead.
Jel kicks off our annual year end tradition of recapping our highlights (and sometimes lowlights) of the year by sharing a few of his favorite moments of 2016.
For the final part of our Guide, we clean up an outbreak of Visual/Light Novel trash, including a new Muv Luv anime that has me shivering with flashbacks of Total Eclipse. But hey, there’s a new Macross coming soon so maybe everything will be OK.
The second part of our Winter 2016 Preview has a whole lot of game adaptations with Divine Gate, Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation, and Dogakobo attempting action again with Luck & Logic. There are a few unique looking shows though, with Shouwa Era Rakugo (someone please come up with a better title) looking like something for the grown-ups to watch and Dimension W attempting to appeal to us unworthy foreigners.
In part 1 of our Winter 2016 guide we have candy store comedy Dagashi Kashi begging to be popular, some new show with mecha cops, more murder mysteries, and KyoAni making another attempt at super powered high school action.
Tis the season for zombies, vampires, blood, and vomiting or at least that’s what this week’s Roundup episodes would have you believe.
We sink our teeth into a whole lot of vampire action this week with Dance With Devils and Owarimonogatari exploring their respective backstories. That’s not necessarily a good thing. At least we always have Osomatsu-san and Miss Monochrome around to keep us amused.
Hello, and welcome to All Your Monies, where The Glorio Blog’s resident toy and figure collecting crew (and Aqua (and Iro)) will run down the last week’s new pre-orders, turning a loving or scathing eye over what’s been put out for you to spend your hard earned cash on. This week there’s a strong new contender for ‘worst thing ever featured in one of these columns’. NSFW obviously.
On a very special episode of Mr. Osomatsu: Jyushimatsu learns the joy – and pain – of falling in love. It’s also one of the best episodes of the year. This is not a joke, I am totally serious.
We’re halfway through the Fall season, somewhat, maybe, so we’ve heard the theme songs of this quarter’s anime enough to decide which one we like the most.
Gacha! is your fortnightly (or thereabouts) look at the weird world of Japanese capsule toys. In this instalment, we discover that it’s pretty hard not to feature toys that cling to drinking glasses. At least we have all these branded food items.

This week we’ve got girls girls girls! Also boys. And rabbits, snakes, and hawks.
