The industry felt in flux, torn between its commercial and artistic passions, and the result was a messy slate of shows which lacked cohesion or a level of overall quality to match last year’s riches. I must admit that these last 12 months have been a difficult time for me to be a fan, and I’ve fallen slightly out of love with the medium as a result. Why is that?

Last year I was blessed with some great romance shows that made up for just how few had been released, but this year I have to strain to string together more than two or three shows together where romance was the most appealing factor. Still, there were a few really good things to talk about. Snow White remained captivating and adorable all the way to the break, and Yamada-kun’s heartfelt romance almost made up for it’s runaway train of a final stretch. With all that, I’ll try to stick to my niche as much as I can before going off the deep end once the Ero-Kawaii-tier Awards start flying around.

The second part of our Winter 2016 Preview has a whole lot of game adaptations with Divine Gate, Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation, and Dogakobo attempting action again with Luck & Logic. There are a few unique looking shows though, with Shouwa Era Rakugo (someone please come up with a better title) looking like something for the grown-ups to watch and Dimension W attempting to appeal to us unworthy foreigners.
