GLORIO Summer 2015 Anime Guide Part 2

The Glorio anime preview continues as we thread ever closer to the upcoming summer season. In the likely event that part one featured nothing for you to be excited for, this half of the lineup provides more limitless potential with the unlikely resurrection of Working!! and the even more surprising return of Dragon Ball to your television screen. For fans of even more screaming, Key is unleashing Charlotte, their first original anime project since Angel Beats!, while God Eater takes up the mantle of this season’s obligatory video game adaptation. Also present are an obligatory shoujo romance, an obligatory light novel adaptation about being stuck in a video game and the obligatory results of frenetic lobbying by the International Association of Teratogynophiliacs. It all sounds so uninteresting, it’s almost as if anime itself is telling us to go outside. But hey, if you’re excited for something, be sure to let us know.

All Your Monies: June 22nd 2015

Hello, and welcome to All Your Monies, where The Glorio Blog’s resident toy and figure collecting crew (and Aqua) will run down the last week’s new pre-orders, turning a loving or scathing eye over what’s been put out for you to spend your hard earned cash on. This week we’re fully back in the swing of things after a slightly inconsistent schedule. To celebrate, here’s an extra-large edition.

GLORIO Summer 2015 Anime Guide Part 1

Part 1 of our guide is headlined by the hopefully glorious train wreck that is Chaos Dragon and shamefully hides Shimoseka, the front runner for Worst Show of the Season. Somewhere in the middle we have the return of Aquarion and Symphogear, the hot blooded action of Gangsta and Ushio & Tora, and some unknown romantic comedy potential with Classroom Crisis. With that kind of lineup maybe “glorious train wreck” is the best any of these shows can hope for, but surely we will find the surprise hits like we always do. Take a look, judge for yourself, and let us know what you’ll be watching.

The Roundup: Spring 2015 Volume 10

It’s the penultimate Spring 2015 Roundup as our shows prepare for their finales or mid-series climax. Dogakobo’s offerings continue to fizzle out, SNAFU gears up for a possible strong finish, and for better or worse My Love Story, Ninja Slayer, Moe Nagato, and Arslan begin to burrow in for next season.

Jukebox: Reclaiming Idols

Believe it or not, Japan can make other music aside from peppy pop! It has a vibrant underground music scene, which over the years has developed into an influential force to be reckoned with. In Jukebox, we take a look at the versatility of the Japanese music industry — beyond the realm of anime and other geekery. This time, we explore how Japanese pop ‘idols’ have transformed over the years, maybe even for the better. Can idols be saved, or have scandals doomed them to live on as a creatively bankrupt, patriarchic relic?

Pilgrimage to Mecha 07: Mobile Suit Gundam

Join us for our Pilgrimage to Mecha – where I go back in time and catch up on some of the classics and hidden gems of the mecha genre. Whether it was before my time or I simply missed out on them, it’s time for me to watch them and let you know why you should too!

This time, I share my thoughts on the progenitor of the storied franchise: Mobile Suit Gundam

The Roundup: Spring 2015 Volume 9

Let’s hope the various Roundup shows are saving up some time and money for their final episodes as a whole lot of them got beat by the ugly stick. I’d expect that kind of thing from Ninja Slayer but when even Plastic Memories looks bad, something must be up.

OP/ED Op-Eds: The Best of Spring 2015

‘Tis finally the season for annoying summer hits, so let’s all stay inside and reflect on the good old days before the calypso beats took over. Only it’s not the early 2000’s anymore and this is an anime blog, so the music isn’t going to be that much better. Especially since this season has been positively gasping for decent shows and decent songs to go with them, so don’t be surprised if you’re going to get a bit of déjà vu from this here feature. For what they’re worth, these are our favourite anime songs from the past season.

The Roundup: Spring 2015 Volume 8

My Love Story!! and Plastic Memories deliver the Dos and Don’ts of good romance stories while Mikagura School Suite has apparently fired their stuff and put the main character in charge. CUT! Seriously, who wrote that episode…

All Your Monies: June 1st 2015

Hello, and welcome to All Your Monies, where The Glorio Blog’s resident toy and figure collecting crew (and Aqua) will run down the last week’s new pre-orders, turning a loving or scathing eye over what’s been put out for you to spend your hard earned cash on. This week we have girls with swords, girls without swords, boys who ARE swords and some sadly non sword related figures.

The Roundup: Spring 2015 Volume 7

Maybe it’s the incoming Summer heat getting to us or I’m still coming down from the high of Sound! Euphonium episode 8, but a lot shows this week felt like they were just going through the motions. Fortunately the Bromance of My Love Story!! and the unique fantasy of Arslan can still hold things down while the other series aren’t at their best.

All Your Honies: AYM Bonus Edition May 23, 2015

Tiny skirts and bouncing chesticles? No thanks – not with these magnificent specimens of manhood on display. Gleaming washboard abs, perfectly toned quads, bulging biceps glistening with man-dew… it’s practically a smorgasbord of hawt male bodies, all lined up and ready to be objectified in this very special edition of All Your Monies.

The Roundup: Spring 2015 Volume 6

My frustration with Dogakobo grows as other shows like SNAFU and Arslan quietly do their thing and do it well. Maybe I chose the wrong shows this season? Also, My Love Story MIGHT have a lawsuit on their hands after stealing the Rocky training montage music.

The Half Time Show: Spring 2015

The smell of hot dogs, the noise of conversation and the breeze from the occasional girder falling from the sky. That’s right, it’s the half time show! The Glorio Rabble have put their heads together to let you know what’s worth your valuable time, in a world where first episodes are high budget and mid-season turns filler if left out in the sun too long.

Pilgrimage to Mecha 06: Mobile Fighter G Gundam

Join us for our Pilgrimage to Mecha – where I go back in time and catch up on some of the classics and hidden gems of the mecha genre. Whether it was before my time or I simply missed out on them, it’s time for me to watch them and let you know why you should too!

This time, we have guest author Iro sharing his thoughts on the glorious aberrant of the Gundam franchise: G Gundam

The Roundup: Spring 2015 Volume 5

We’re at the midpoint of the season and the Balance of Power in The Roundup might be shifting. Arslan, Ninja Slayer, and SNAFU’s stocks are on the rise while Mikagura School Suite, Plastic Memories, and possibly even our beloved My Love Story!! are on the decline. Also, Nagato is still moe.

All Your Monies: May 11th 2015

Hello, and welcome to All Your Monies, where The Glorio Blog’s resident toy and figure collecting crew (and Aqua) will run down the last week’s new pre-orders, turning a loving or scathing eye over what’s been put out for you to spend your hard earned cash on. This week we show more love to Silent HIll than Konami does.

The Roundup: Spring 2015 Volume 4

Euri crashes The Roundup as he catches up on the second season of Baby’s First Harem Nisekoi. Meanwhile, Mikagura School Suite and Plastic Memories flip flop their comedy and action this week and My Love Story!! is still hands down the best thing in this post.

The GLORIO Chat Episode 1: Slightly Less Coherent Babble

AND WE’RE BACK! Join Jel, Iro, and Marlin in the first episode of the official reboot of the official podcast of The Glorio Blog. We chat about the new season and what’s worth watching and what’s worth skipping. Listen now and find out which one of us can do the best YEEEAAARRTTT!!! (spoiler: we are all terrible).
