The GLORIO Chat Episode 69: Fall 2020 Anime Season Preview
Anime is back with a full roster of shows for the Fall 2020 season, but do any of them look good? You’ll just have to listen and find out.
Anime is back with a full roster of shows for the Fall 2020 season, but do any of them look good? You’ll just have to listen and find out.
I made an angry list last year, so this time I figured I’d go with a more long-form retrospective that hopefully didn’t end up quite as acerbic, but, well… read ahead.
We bid farewell to Nananananana’s Buried Treasure, Riddle Story of Devil The Devil’s Riddle, and Mahouka, even though it’s not ending.
Mixed results as we approach the end of the season. The Devil’s Riddle and Brynhildr race to possible anime original finishes while Date A Live decides to save it for the movie.
Riddle Story of Devil taps into one of my worst fears, several shows get kinda dark for their final arcs, and Marlin totally does not take the week off.
Riddle Story of Devil skips the gay dads, If Her Flag Breaks increases its figure marketing opportunities, and No Game No Life finally gets a header image!
We bid farewell to the BEST SHOW OF THE SEASON and If Her Flag Breaks proves nothing says gag comedy like going to an alternate universe where all your friends are dead.
The Devil’s Riddle almost jumps the shark, Date a Live and Chaika get beat with the Ugly Stick, and even though Ping Pong has gone on to a better place Nananananana has our back when it comes to animated table tennis action.
Ping Pong stirs the souls of Gee and Marlin, Iro reminds us that we are still watching The World Is Still Beautiful, and Lifesong actually drops a show!
Marlin buries Nanananana, Lifesong takes a break from theoretical politics to rave about Black Bullet and No Game No Life, and I remind everyone Seki-kun x Kana Hanazawa is this season’s OTP.
The 4th episode of The Irregular At Magic High School (or Mahouka for short) caused a burst of internet born drama. Interpretations of the political and ethical implications of Mahouka’s message were the cause.
Ping Pong delivers the coolest OP of the season, Lifesong geeks out over No Game No Life and not because of the Jojo references, and we have our first official drop of the season. WHAT COULD IT BE???
In this week’s episode: Lifesong and Marlin both refuse to drop anything as we unleash our full slate of shows. A certain table tennis anime continues to ping our pong (that sounds disgusting), Nananananana’s Buried Treasure goes for the shotgun blast of anime girl fetishes, and if you look closely you just might find a Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure joke.
This Week: Riddle Story of Devil The Devil’s Riddle continues to keep us delightfully perplexed, I finally get to geek out over Tonari no Seki-kun: The Master of Killing Time a.k.a the Best Show of the Season on a weekly basis, and Lifesong gets to flex his considerable anime-watching muscle on a host of other shows.
Part 2 of our Spring 2014 Anime Guide is headlined by the Noitamina block of shows and a pair of potential big hits in The Irregular at Magic High School and Knights of Sidonia. Add in a RomCom from the author of Love Lab and a few anime original projects and I’m finding the second half of the guide even more intriguing than the first.
