Nanana’s Buried Treasure Episode 9Thursday 1:30 pm EST on Crunchyroll |
Jel: I didn’t think Nanananana could get more boring than last week but I WAS WRONG. This entire episode was wasted establishing Hiiyo is the bad guy, which was painfully obvious when he walked in with his long black hair and equally EVIL coat quite some time ago. I’m hard pressed to remember anything of note that happened besides a lot of talking. I guess they did have to unite the Skulls and the club members somehow but man the show has not done enough to make you care. |

Date A Live Season 2 Episode 9
|
Lifesong: A whole bunch of things boiled over, but instead of feeling excited I am more relieved that we finally got here. That said, Miku may finally be winning me over. Her story played out exactly as expected, but it had enough heart to keep me at least somewhat invested. I’m glad to see the focus returning to Tohka and Shiro. I do have to say that while I haven’t been very excited by our heroes I can’t wait to see these villains get some justice. I will be sad if they get away clean. |

Jel: I would have preferred this show as a psychological thriller but I would have also accepted this kind of stupid over the top action. I did not see the cyborg angle coming and the creepy dolls were a nice touch. It was also cool to see Haru has some fight in her. Still, it feels like too little too late as I can’t see anything really winning me over at this point. It was pretty obvious early on Nio would be the last boss so not surprised to see how things turned out, maybe they can surprise us next week. |

The Irregular at Magic High School Episode 10
|
Lifesong: Apparently Tatsuya can share his ubermensch potential with his imouto. Everyone is shocked when she is able to cancel magic! Everyone except the audience of course. This show has had a clear conservative bend to it from the start. I don’t think anyone will try to argue with that that. Oddly enough that didn’t really bother me that much until imouto decided to freak out about Mizuki’s outfit and tell her to cover up. Her outfit wasn’t even remotely ridiculous! I guess the author knew better than to have Tatsuya make that statement at least. Of course before we get caught up on what kind of message this show is trying to convey we should keep in mind that all the girls in the hot springs are gay for imouto. This show could be so much more amusing if they just cheesed up the tone. I’m having a hard time finishing episodes as it stands. |

The World Is Still Beautiful Episode 9
|
Marlin (?): HEY THIS IS MARLIN AND TOTALLY NOT JEL IT WAS CUTE WHEN THE LITTLE BOY LET THE PRETTY GIRL GO HOME TO SEE SICK GRANDMA BUT HE IS SO TINY WHAT’S UP WITH THAT SHE COULD GO TO JAIL ESPECIALLY AFTER THE KISS THING ALSO HER SISTERS ARE ANNOYING AND JEALOUS GUY IS PROBABLY GONNA KILL HIM SO GOOD TIMES. |

Brynhildr In the Darkness Episode 10
|
Lifesong: Who wants some mood whiplash? This episode we transition from a sad melting witch to beaches and fan service. Actually the melting witch kind of felt like service as well in its own twisted kind of way. There was just so much build up and so many death flags up to the moment where she gets terminated. The new OP helped create a mood of unease. I am curious where this show will go next. It seems to be heading toward a conclusion of some sort. Maybe one of you manga readers can tell me if it has deviated for an anime original ending or not? |

Black Bullet Episode 9
|
Lifesong: I… what even happened in this episode? This government is a mess. It’s a wonder they have any power at all. I guess that makes for better drama, but their incompetence is stunning. At least forming an adjuvant to fight the invaders wasn’t a plot oversight like I had feared. The government just has that little control over it’s social justice system. In fact they pretty much act independently. I guess we already knew they had a degree of independence, but now we have seen the extent of it. Bad things are coming next week, I hope all the main characters make it out alive. I am starting to like this group they are bringing together and I hope their adventures won’t end here. |

No Game No Life Episode 9
|
Lifesong: My mind exploded. Forgive me while I attempt to clean pieces of brain off my monitor as I write about this. Sora is certifiably insane, but his gamble was incredible to watch play out. The real star of this week was Shiro and her near perfect reasoning. Even with her memories of Sora fading away she can remember the effects of him being around and reconstruct the memories. There was a even a plot related show don’t tell reason for grabbing Steph’s boobs. This show is awesome! Bring on the fight with the beastmen! I can’t wait to see how this is going to play out. |

Chaika –The Coffin Princess– Episode 9
|
Lifesong: This was one of the more touching episodes of Chaika I think. It wasn’t surprising that our heroes have bad memories from the war or that people close to them had died, but I found myself loving this episode anyway. What really got me was the scene where Chaika validates the bad memories as a positive force in Tooru life. More episodes like this one please. |

If Her Flag Breaks Episode 9
|
Marlin (?): TOTALLY MARLIN AGAIN AND NOT JEL HEY I THOUGHT THIS WAS A COMEDY WHY DID IT GET DARK BUT IT WAS STILL FUNNY BECAUSE ROBOT GIRL IS STILL A NENDOROID AND THEY GAVE THE ANNOYING GIRL AN ANNOYING GIRL FLAG BUT THEN THEY WENT RIGHT BACK TO DEATH AND SUICIDE SO YEAH THIS SHOW IS WEIRD. |
far as I can remember brynhildr skipped some material after nanami’s death, the skadi arc. also lol no way they’re animating the rest of valkyrie arc, condesnsing 50 some chapters into 3 more eps, no way…not gonna happen. anime original ending all but confirmed at this point. this show really shoulda been a two-cour at least, ugh.
black bullet: them feels son, them heart wrenching feels. it’s been a while since I shed a tear. though not as horrific as in the light novels which has those lolis getting lynched orz, but yeah this episode…oy. on the upside Kisara was great for being able to tear Rentarou out of his depression and Enju gritting her teeth near the end ;-;. looks like Kagetane is coming back next week.
and once again NGNL proving it’s greatness. This episode pretty much shows you just how strong Sora and Shiro’s bond of absolute trust is. Sora is pretty much insane as this episode proved, but that gambit holy shit that was great, stakes seemed higher than ever, and were it not for the siblings trust in each other I doubt it would have turned out this way. Kurami and Fi added to the harem? and the Shiro despair was well done here. overall really good episode for me and it turned out better than I thought it would.
@Lifesong: Mahouka…Just.Drop.it.
Valkyria got them crazy eyes. Anyone care to wager on the amount of corpses she leaves behind her wake? including the 8 already.
I actually have enjoyed a lot about Mahouka. I’m not sure if I am sick of it or I just didn’t like this last episode. At this point I want to finish out the arc at least.
As for Brynhildr I am thinking Lucy levels of destruction if not worse. Lucy was a broody anti hero. This new girl? She looks like she is having fun being a psycho.
Btw this episode of Mahouka was best one yet by far
Favorite part: Erika leaving Tatsuya speechless and Lost~ shit was hilarious yo
I don’t know, even Erika didn’t make me laugh this week. I’m not sure if she really left him speechless, I think he just legitimately doesn’t care like she said. They have more or less confirmed that he is an unfeeling robot. I just hope something more interesting happens soon.
Ah, well, I can understand that…FWIW I enjoyed that part though. Tatsuya trying to drink from an empty glass gave me a few laughs. There’s also Erika straight up lying through her teeth to Miyuki and Mizuki which also amused me. Kudou Retsu though did not look at all how I expected him to be, I was expecting a more elderly looking person.
