Premise
The Gods of Misfortune turn their attention to a girl that is so lucky she drains the fortune out of people around her. One particular god is sent to balance her out and madness ensues.
Jel’s Thoughts
I should note that I was the only one in our last guide that enjoyed the parody fueled, coked-up assault on the senses that was the first episode of Nyaruko-san. That is probably a close approximation to tempo of the first episode of Bimbougami and I have to say I liked this as well. But while Nyaruko quickly withered in it’s boring nonsense plot lines I feel like there’s a little more to work with here. They did actually give us a few minutes of introspection to catch our breath at one point… at least until our main heroine suplexes her pursuing god and makes a run for it.
Verdict? Feelin’ Lucky
The odds may be stacked against me, but I’m gonna give this another episode. I do like insane comedies and so far this fits the bill.
Lifesong’s Thoughts
Wow, so much energy. This anime is an assult of anime references and crazy antics. This is one I would normally expect to stay in Japan but I guess Funimation thinks otherwise as they have lincensed it for streaming.
Verdict? Better Than Average Fortune
So hey, I kind of enjoyed the first episode. I am reminded of Medaka Box only without the awful artstyle and mindnumbingly stupid but perfect heroine. This seems like the type of show I’ll get tired of pretty fast but I enjoyed the first episode so I’m in for now.
Dragonzigg’s Thoughts
There’s nothing really notable about this, if you don’t count my inability to call it anything other than Cowboy Binbop. It’s a pretty generic ‘wacky’ comedy where our big boobed (special care is made to note this aspect of her) is super lucky,so lucky in fact that an angry flat chested woman comes to take her luck away. It gets points for the occasional amusing wacked out ide, like the scene where someone surfs on a tidal wave of cats, but loses them for a rather tasteless twist which attempts an unearned emotional punch, and for adopting the Family Guy method of thinking making references to way better shows makes you funny.
Verdict? Hapless
Unremarkable, occasionally funny, but nothing that’s really worth yur time and effort here.
Irothtin’s Thoughts
A bimbo is super lucky and therefore a massive bitch. She has bitchventures while a Misfortune God tries to drain her luck.
Verdict? Unfortunate
Rapid-fire “comedy” in the form of references and bouncing boobs – not my thing. At least the subbers had fun with it.
Marlin’s Thoughts
My Glorio brothers know I have a special place in my heart for the voice talents of Kana Hanazawa. The one she uses here I suppose is supposed to sound more mature than her genki voices like Nessa, but with enough energy that it’s not like her more reserved styles ala Kuroneko. It shows she does have some range, but just really doesn’t work for me. However, I doubt that’s really going to be a problem with anyone. To the actual meat of the show, I could see it going either way. This episode had some funny jokes, but it just seemed to lean a lot on fanservice right off the bat. It was also heavily entwined with a lot of the comedy, which is never a good sign.
Verdict? Sure Full of Bimbos Alright
While I would give this show two episodes, it’s still definitely an on the fence series. Something about its storytelling and writing just did not sit right with me.
Timmy’s Thoughts I really wasn’t expecting much of anything out of this show and had planned to skip it. I figured a comedy about a girl with big boobs would be full of rather crude jokes and was something I wouldn’t miss. After hearing it was exceeding minimal expectations however, I figured what the hell and gave it a shot. Much to my suprise it turns out this is a generally funny and enjoyable show.
Verdict? Fortune Smiles Upon This One
Last season’s Nyarko-san pingued my intrest but it quickly grew repetive with Nyarko trying to jump the MC every episode. Many of the Lovecraft jokes flying over my head didn’t help its cause and I ended up not seeing it though.Binbougami Ga! seems to be cut from a similar piece of cloth but with a few key differences. For starters someone not trying to get into someone elses pants as a recurring joke is a definite plus, although boob jokes could replace this as an quaim if they get out of hand. Secondly most of the jokes and references I can actually pick up on and that no doubt helps quite a bit. If you enjoyed or maybe thought Nyarko-san could have been better or are just a fan of comidies in general give this one a shot.
Aqua’s Thoughts
Oh, um, hey. I actually liked this. Cheap 6-frames-per-second animation and loud gags give off the aura of something made in the early 2000s, but that might be more of a plus than a minus. After all, it is not that often we get to see a comedy anime that is not about perversion, let alone a comedy anime that is actually worth two cents. Will it remaining interesting throughout its entire run?
Verdict? Why Did I Like This?
It’s no clever, self-aware festival of wit but it is deliciously engaging. Somehow.
