Tari Tari Episode 9

Sawa is still the best character

Recap: Sawa’s mom recruits the Choir and Sometimes Badminton Club to dress up as Sentai Rangers and promote local business. This strikes a chord with Wien, who reveals why he’s taking the assignment so seriously.

Jel’s Thoughts: Despite the teases of serious drama every now and then, I’m getting super bored with Tari Tari. I haven’t been this apathetic about an anime episode in a good long while. Wien’s background story is nice I guess, but feels incredibly uninspired. Of course there is also whatever drama is brewing with the Vice Principal, presumably something along the lines of disbanding the choir club. Even that really doesn’t interest me though. We already knew she had some kind of poetic justice coming her way.

Once again I’m going to drag out the Hanasaku Iroha comparison: there is a good story in here somewhere but it’s getting buried in events no one wants to see. Pick a main character, tell her story and tell it well. Everyone else can play their role, but there just isn’t enough time to build five different meaningful backstories in twelve episodes. The only real point of interest is (and has always been) Wakana’s quest to write a song and finally be at peace with her mother’s death. We are quickly running out of episodes to get there.
