Premise: An otaku super nerd is abducted and sent to a fantasy world to sell moe products for the sake of peace between Japan and this newly found world.
Lifesong’s Verdict: The Supreme Ruler is a Loli
Still here? Good, because I actually felt like this first episode was fairly well done considering the big info-dump in the middle. The protagonist is something of an awkward idiot, but not entirely unlikeable. In particular, I liked the dynamic between the protagonist and his cute half elf maid.
For me one of the most important aspects of a fantasy is having an inviting world that I would actually want to explore and I found that here. The universe is cliche in that it didn’t bring anything new to the table, but it was charming enough that I enjoyed it anyway. Despite the info-dump, we don’t really know what our protagonist will be doing in this new world. Hopefully episode 2 will clear that up and give us an idea of what to expect from this show story wise. For now I’m cautiously optimistic.
Marlin’s Verdict: Utterly Bland.
Usually a show can do pretty well by setting up its world early on, but the way it was done in this show was just boring. I suppose the idea of a show about otaku being otaku that should pander to otaku would always be something I’d hate, but the uninspired generic fantasy world didn’t help things at all. At the very least they could have this otaku be consistent in his creepy otakudom. One minute he’s asking a woman’s cup size and drooling over a maid outfit like its perfectly acceptable and the next he instantly invokes a sense of shame by not letting the maid undress him. What’s especially stupid is how much time is spent building up the tensions between these two worlds like it is actually serious, which it would be, and then throwing it away for a cheap loli joke. Pass.
