Recap: Hey, remember that Alibaba guy? He sure sucks, am I right?
Iro’s Thoughts:
Again demonstrating that the season break was not kind to Magi‘s pacing, we have yet another breather episode this week as the crew gears up to go their separate ways. This mostly consists of everyone completely taking the piss out of Alibaba as he eavesdrops in another room. It’s a fun enough interlude, no matter whether you think Alibaba deserves it or not, and has a couple amusing call backs to the first season. I have to give the voice work props for the segment, as well. The short bit with the teachers arguing whose student is best (hint: it’s Morgiana) is fun too, if ultimately pointless.
Of course, the budget takes a nosedive in the second half, relegating much of the journey to a maritime montage. But then pirates! Oh nooo! As the only manga reader around here, I honestly forgot completely about this subplot. Still, it should be a decent enough mini-arc to tide us over before everyone goes off on their own. To sum up: Aladdin’s headed to wizard school in Magnostadt, Morgiana wants to see her homeland in the Dark Continent, Alibaba’s aiming to become a gladiator at the Laem Colosseum, and Hakuryu is going back home to mommy. Fun times are ahead for us all!
Lifesong’s Thoughts:
In a not exactly unexpected twist of fate, Magi still isn’t very good at pacing. Well not much happened this episode. Alibaba got made fun of a bunch and made a fool of himself then he kill some sea monster and everyone was all happy. It was fun enough I guess, but there really isn’t much to talk about. Next week we will get to see our heroes go up against some pirates, hopefully that will be fun. Personally I would like to see this story move on the part where Aladdin is actually at his destination.
