JoJo: Stardust Crusaders Episode 12 and 13

Blah blah blah our heroes are attacked by the Empress and the Wheel of Fortune.

Iro’s thoughts

Aaaand we return to the monster-of-the-week stuff, at least until next episode, which seems to be a two-parter. Fortunately, both episode 12 and 13 are highly entertaining by virtue of being so darn silly. It’s a great callback to the first two arcs of JoJo, where things were frequently so ridiculous that you couldn’t help but enjoy it. Unless you thought it was too stupid, but in that case, why are you reading this? Live a little!

Episode 12 in particular is centered around good old Joseph Joestar, and is accordingly way sillier than any Stardust Crusaders episode has been so far. The reveal of a crazy talking blob sprouting from Joseph’s arm is plain bizarre, and when paired with him freaking out as he’s running around the city while Polnareff repeatedly fails to notice, it’s hilarious. We also get a few great callbacks, particularly the ever-useless Ripple making a reappearance and Joseph’s old “Your next line is X” phrase. The old man shows us that he’s still got it, using Hermit Purple in some fun ways and making us laugh.

Episode 13 keeps up the silliness, with the villain’s Stand being a spiky evil car that shoots gasoline bullets. That’s probably all that needs to be said about that. The scene where Joseph and Jotaro decide the best way to find the enemy is to beat up everyone at the tea house was pretty amazing, though. Ideally all the monster-of-the-week episodes will be this dumb and entertaining, but I’m not counting on it. The next couple of episodes should wrap up this, uh, segment of Stardust Crusaders, and I’m looking forward to it.

  1. Joseph “OH NOOOOOO” Joestar going ham beast against The Empress. Along with Empress’s ability and munch munch sound effects, the episode was just straight up fun to watch. The battle intensifies as The Empress kept absorbing shit. Joseph’s takedown had to be the most satisfying part though, ending it with his signature part 2 move, his “mind reading” predicting the enemy’s next line and defeating them afterwards. I loved the frickin frack out of that.

shoutouts to Duel and Christine, which Wheel of Fortune was obviously inspired by. One thing that did sadden me though was the anime’s removal of the initial interaction between Ann and the crusaders, where Ann offered Indian porn to Joseph and they started discussing, which got Jotaro angry prompting him to tell everyone to please STFU, nonetheless I still enjoyed Wheel of Fortune episode a lot.

If you’re not using violence to solve your problems you’re most definitely doing it wrong XD I just love when the group just assumes everyone nearby is an enemy and proceeds to beat the fucking shit out of them, no questions asked lol. Gotta love Kugie’s voice work here as Ann clearly maintains the young girl voice without going too much into squeaky territory. The stand battle was one of my favorites for not just being enjoyable but pretty damn hilarious as well, especially in the anime with ZZ’s voice and the fourth wall break near the end, “I ended Part 3 early”. While he was initially intimidating, after we all see ZZ’;s whole body come flying out of the car my sides pretty much flew into orbit, Jotaro smiling though was just…XD totally wasn’t expecting that. In the end ZZ is chained to a rock and left to starve to death, up next is JUSTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously can’t wait for some of them future stand fights.

  2. LOL Jonathan Jostars “Ohhhh Nooooo” cracks me up every time! hahahaha
