Recap

Our heroes make a stop in a mysterious, foggy town, where Enyaba and her Justice Stand lie in wait.

Iro’s thoughts

Blahblahblah monster of the week, blahblahblah Enya, blahblahblah Polnareff, blahblahblah Star Platinum saves the day.

Seriously though, we get a pretty entertaining couple of episodes as Enya Geil takes center stage as what is effectively the boss of Stardust Crusaders Disk 1. The bulk of episode 14 is a slow, methodically paced horror story, with our heroes stopping for the night in a strange creepy town with a bunch of gross, apathetic citizens. It’s a massive departure from JoJo‘s usual wild and bombastic tone, and it works well for the most part. It can be difficult to keep up the tension of facing some heretofore unknown Stand ability, since it’s what the show always does, but it works this time with the build-up and the atmosphere.

For better or worse, there’s still a good amount of comedy throughout these two episodes. Joseph completely failing at the local greeting was absolutely hilarious, and while the scene of Polnareff being utterly oblivious was drawn out a bit too much, it’s just so stupid and cringe-worthy that it can’t help but stay at least mildly funny. I guess almost all of episode 15 was dragged out, though; there’s the distinct feeling that they didn’t have quiiite enough material to do two full episodes, but there was too much to cram into one. It all more-or-less works out in the end, though, and we depart with the promise of another two-parter episode coming up. If things go as I remember from the manga, we should be in for a treat.

  1. AHAHAHAHHAHA why is watching Polnareff is always so mcuh fun?
Justice delivered on both the horror setting (zombie baby full of holes) and the comedy, lol Enyas face when Polnareff told her he’d replace her son. XD

and now the tv series has mostly caught up to the 2000 ova series. The Jotaro zombie burst scene was pretty cool too, and yep the ending is just as ridiculous as I remember lawlz

really can not wait to see The Lovers animated

  2. I’m finding it hard to watch an entire episode straight through. Am I the only one? Besides the monster of the week format I’m enjoying the weird stands and their powers. Definitely creative. But something just aint keeping me engaged……
