I liked the first episode but thought it lacked the manic energy of the original, and it was the energy that made FLCL memorable. The new girl (I didn’t catch her name, alas), reminds me a little of Mamimi, and her father is being hidden from us…considering they used the whole episode to reveal Haruko, can we guess the absent father is Nauta?
We talked a little about the Naota dad theory in the episode and it certainly seems possible, almost too obvious to be true. I also think the new girl might be a robot so the father thing might be relative.
