Premise

Tearmoon Empire tells the story of a selfish, rich princess who is jailed and executed by a revolution at the age of 20. She’s then sent back in time into the body of her 12-year-old self but with her diary intact covering the 8 years up to her execution. Her new mission is to not be an awful person.

Peter’s verdict: Off with their heads desu-wa

The first major problem with Tearmoon Empire is that it doesn’t seem to have anything new to bring to the table, outside of being debatably not an isekai by ending up in her own body several years prior rather than a reincarnation, but some say she reincarnated into a younger version so up to you. Otherwise, it’s person with power gets killed because they’re an awful person, then has a second chance to change their future because they keep their knowledge of what’s going to happen, so they try to be a better person.

Problem number 2 is we’re meant to be rooting for royalty as she tries to be good to the common folk, etc. Other shows tend to have their main characters largely forego their connections to power pretty much immediately, or the character they reincarnate into is a commoner and so are forced to learn what being a commoner is like, etc. Tearmoon Empire has none of that, instead we have The Emperor’s New Groove but with much less groove.

I can’t say I’m that impressed with this show. It has some nice character designs, an Uesaka Sumire opening theme, and some very good faces, but it’s really not doing it for me.
